About The Position

Kentro is hiring for a Database Administrator to support the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The Database Administrator will play a key role in cloud migration and modernization initiatives, supporting the transition of legacy database systems to AWS and Azure environments. Responsibilities will include database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, partitioning, replication, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, monitoring, and troubleshooting. This position can be performed remotely within the United States and will support Eastern Time working hours.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 6+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or Database Engineer in multi-cloud environments
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL, or related enterprise databases.
  • Strong SQL expertise including tuning, indexing, partitioning, and advanced query optimization.
  • Experience administering cloud databases (AWS RDS, Aurora, Redshift) and cloud data platforms.
  • Experience with large system data migrations.
  • Experience supporting ETL pipelines, data migrations, and high-volume data operations.
  • Experience with backup/restore processes, DR planning, and replication.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident (Green Card)
  • Willing and able to obtain and maintain Public Trust Clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Azure SQL, AWS DMS, DataSync, Lambda, S3, EC2, CloudFormation/Terraform.
  • Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, or cloud-scale analytics platforms.
  • Experience supporting data lake/lakehouse architectures.
  • Familiarity with NIST SP 800-53/171, FedRAMP, and federal security baselines.
  • Experience supporting container workloads (Kubernetes, EKS).
  • Certifications: AWS, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Databricks, or related.
  • Experience with networking protocols as related to ETL and data loading activities.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, configure, optimize, and support CFPB databases including PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Amazon RDS, and Redshift.
  • Perform database performance tuning, indexing strategies, partitioning, query optimization, storage optimization, and replication configuration.
  • Ensure cloud‑native scalability, fault tolerance, and multi‑AZ, multi‑zone architectures for database reliability and automation.
  • Support migration of legacy and on‑premise database systems to Azure or AWS cloud environments (Azure SQL, RDS, Aurora, Redshift, S3).
  • Maintain and enhance AWS Transit Gateways and cloud networking components related to database access and security.
  • Execute data migration processes using tools such as AWS DMS, DataSync, S3 transfer, ETL pipelines, and workflow orchestration platforms (Airflow, Step Functions).
  • Implement monitoring for performance, availability, and data health using tools like CloudWatch, Splunk, and cloud SDKs.
  • Lead troubleshooting of database performance issues, connectivity problems, replication failures, and data integrity concerns.
  • Provide timely response to operational issues including outages, degradations, and incident support for mission-critical CFPB applications.
  • Manage backup/archiving solutions, restore testing, DR planning, and quarterly DR scenario execution ensuring compliance with CFPB guidelines.
  • Implement access controls, roles, permissions, encryption, and auditing in alignment with CFPB Cybersecurity, Privacy, and NIST/FedRAMP requirements.
  • Conduct routine security scanning, vulnerability remediation, patching, and maintenance of database servers.
  • Coordinate with Cybersecurity and Privacy teams to ensure compliance with data policies, controls, and SLAs.
  • Manage database changes through CFPB’s change control process including ServiceNow change requests and CCB approvals.
  • Document database environment configurations, migration steps, operating procedures, and SOPs.
  • Support developers, analysts, and business users with database access, query support, and data troubleshooting.
  • Work with Data Architects and Senior Data Engineers to align database structures with enterprise architecture, lakehouse design, and analytical data models.
  • Contribute to ETL/ELT pipeline efforts and partner with ETL developers during large-scale data integration projects.
