About The Position

As a Senior Database Administrator (DBA), you will be responsible for the administration, optimization, security, and reliability of databases supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) Profile. In this role, you will manage large-scale relational databases that enable enterprise analytics, reporting, and data sharing across VA programs. You will work closely with data architects, engineers, analysts, and VA stakeholders to ensure database environments are performant, secure, compliant, and scalable. You will lead efforts related to database performance tuning, capacity planning, backup and recovery, access control, and operational best practices within a cloud-based VA environment. This role will leverage your hands-on expertise as well as the ability to provide technical guidance and recommendations to support evolving VA Profile data and analytics needs. Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in senior-level database administration, including operational support and optimization of enterprise databases.
  • Experience administering, monitoring, and tuning large-scale relational databases in support of analytics and reporting workloads.
  • Experience designing, creating, and managing database schemas, tables, indexes, and constraints in Oracle PL or SQL.
  • Experience with SQL, including query analysis and optimization to improve performance and resource utilization.
  • Experience implementing database security controls, role-based access, auditing, backup, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Ability to monitor database health, analyze performance metrics, and implement performance tuning strategies.
  • Ability to assess and implement process improvements, including automation, performance optimization, and operational standardization.
  • Public Trust clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting databases within the VA ecosystem, including VA Profile or other VA analytics platforms.
  • Experience with VA data governance, compliance, and security requirements.
  • Experience supporting cloud-based database platforms such as AWS RDS or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience supporting data ingestion pipelines and downstream analytics workloads.
  • Experience with scripting or automation using languages such as Python.
  • Experience supporting multi-cloud or hybrid data environments.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex database and operational concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
