About The Position

This role involves the planning, development, maintenance, and monitoring of integrated database systems. The Database Administrator ensures that the conceptual and design phases of new applications are consistent with the structural parameters within the database environment. They evaluate users' requests for new data elements and systems, incorporate them into the existing shared data environment, and provide technical assistance. Responsibilities include coordinating the use of data to ensure data integrity and control redundancy, loading databases, and reorganizing as needed. The position also entails performing data modeling and prototyping, including logical and physical data modeling, designing relational database models, and creating physical data models from logical data models. Security recovery procedures are also a key part of the role. The administrator will determine and implement database search strategies and storage requirements, maintain the data dictionary ensuring uniformity of definitions and setting standards for its use, and monitor database performance, recommending efficiency improvements. A test database environment for applications will be created, including necessary libraries and procedures. The role requires executing procedures to save, retrieve, and recover databases from hardware and software failures. Assistance will be provided in determining, implementing, and enhancing standards on database security, monitoring agency disaster recovery procedures and systems, installing database software, and analyzing, designing, and implementing databases. Benchmarking and threshold testing of databases, establishing and controlling database security, and assisting in the selection of database management software are also included. The position requires ensuring that user interfaces for database administration and data input/output are compliant with accessibility standards and providing support to users in obtaining data/information when accessibility issues arise.
