Data Visualization Specialist
About The Position
Ignite Digital is seeking a Data Visualization Specialist to design and implement visualizations that support Navy decision-making. The specialist will translate complex operational, financial, readiness, and mission datasets into intuitive dashboards, reports, and presentations. The role works closely with Navy stakeholders, data analysts, architects, and program leadership to make sure visual insights are accurate, actionable, secure, and aligned with Navy mission needs. The specialist develops interactive visual products, selects visualization approaches appropriate to each use case, and communicates findings to technical and non-technical audiences. The role also supports data governance and quality, maintains visualization standards and documentation, and contributes to the continued development of visualization practices aligned with Ignite’s DoD analytics capabilities.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience designing and developing data visualizations.
- Proficiency with Tableau, Power BI, D3.js, Qlik Sense, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of data analysis, statistical concepts, and data storytelling.
- Experience with SQL, data modeling, ETL processes, and data warehousing environments.
- Knowledge of UI/UX design principles, dashboard layout techniques, and user-centered design.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics for diverse audiences.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Information Science, Data Visualization, Design, or a related field.
- Active DoW SECRET clearance required.
- Must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information and be subject to a government security investigation.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement interactive dashboards, reports, and visual presentations for Navy stakeholders.
- Select and apply appropriate visualization techniques, including charts, graphs, maps, geospatial visuals, trend displays, and hierarchical visuals.
- Ensure visual outputs are clear, accurate, and trustworthy.
- Engage stakeholders to gather visualization requirements, identify insights, and define key narratives.
- Translate technical analysis into visuals accessible to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Maintain visualization standards, design principles, and best-practice documentation.
- Ensure dashboards and reports use governed, validated, and compliant Navy data sources.
- Verify data accuracy, lineage integrity, and consistency across views.
- Present dashboards and visual insights to program leadership, operators, analysts, and mission partners.
- Explain trends, anomalies, and key takeaways to support Navy decision-making.
- Stay current on modern visualization tools, techniques, and UI/UX patterns.
- Document visualization methodologies, style guides, and workflows.
- Support the maturity of visualization practices aligned with Ignite’s DoD analytics capabilities.
