About The Position

The Data Technician Supporting English Learner Programs position works within the Research Division to support data requests and reporting for the district, specifically for English Learner and Refugee Programs. Data Technicians work closely with the Executive Director of Research and other department leadership to draft data reporting plans for requests that are made on behalf of internal or external stakeholders. Additionally, this position will support the needs of our Curriculum and Instructional Support Department's Office of English Learner, Dual Language, Refugee, and Migrant Education for EL and refugee programs data. This position requires an individual who can protect the confidentiality of student and staff records that are stored and processed within the Research Division. General duties will include completing quarterly and annual district, state, and federal reports, processing and fulfilling data requests, merging and cleaning datasets to prepare them for analysis to fulfill research projects and requests, and conducting quality control checks of data stored within Infinite Campus and specific to English Learner and Refugee programs.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Experience using Excel, Access, and other Microsoft Office products with a high degree of proficiency.
  • Experience cleaning, processing, and reporting data.
  • Ability to handle secure information while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to identify and comprehend information and present it in a format that others, with little experience with the data, can understand.
  • Accuracy on all work products with utmost reliability.
  • Ability to use critical thinking skills and develop alternative solutions so that information system limitations do not impede completion of a project.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and prioritize tasks to be completed within a tight timeframe.
  • Must be able to respond rapidly to requests.
  • Must have organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard.

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience working with databases and writing SQL queries is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with data visualization software such as Tableau or Microsoft BI is preferred but not required.
  • Experience using Infinite Campus or other student/staff information systems.
  • Experience working in a similar capacity within K-12 education is preferred but not required.
  • Tacit understanding of English Learner Programs and services (e.g., English Language Development, Dual Language, Sheltered Instruction, Refugee education) is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide outstanding customer service with high standards of tact and courtesy.
  • Clean, recode, and format datasets for research projects.
  • Process and fulfill data requests on demand and as approved by the research review committee.
  • Support the completion of annual district, state, and federal reports.
  • Conduct quality control audits of English Learner and Refugee data in our student information system (i.e., Infinite Campus) against policy expectations.
  • Compiling longitudinal data to support instructional decision-making at the systems level.
  • Creating insights from the personal exploration of data.
  • Combine multiple sources of data to address research questions or requests related to English Learner and Refugee data.
  • Provide support to the Research Staff in summarizing data using appropriate reporting tools.
  • Create, maintain, and ensure the quality of datasets, reports, and metrics.
  • Order office materials and supplies.
  • Assist with the collection, organization, editing, and compilation of monthly, quarterly, or annual statistical reports.
  • Maintain historical data files.
  • Proactively seek to help other team members when workload permits.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to enhance job skills.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or other central office administrators.
