About The Position

Hudson Valley Credit Union is currently recruiting for the position of Data Steward. Primary Function: Serve as the business representative responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of data within assigned domains (e.g., Lending, Deposits, Member Data, Finance). Define, document, and maintain business data definitions, metadata, and data lineage. Review and validate data quality reports, working with Data Governance and IT to resolve anomalies. Support implementation of data quality rules, thresholds, and validation routines in collaboration with Data Quality & Compliance Analysts. Participate in root cause analysis for recurring data issues and recommend process improvements. Support the identification and documentation of Critical Data Elements (CDEs) within assigned domains, including defining quality thresholds and validation rules.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related technical, law or security field - Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent, cybersecurity, information assurance required
  • Minimum 5 Years Data management, business analysis, or data governance within a financial services or regulated environment required
  • Minimum 5 Years Experience working with core banking systems, CRM platforms, or data warehouses required

  • Data Management or Governance certification (e.g., DAMA CDMP, DGSP, or equivalent) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the credit union’s data is accurate, consistent, and trusted across business lines.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between business units and the Data Governance team, supporting the effective management of member, operational, and financial data throughout its lifecycle.
  • Enforce data standards, definitions, and usage policies; partner with Data Owners and Data Governance leadership to resolve data quality issues; and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements including NCUA Part 748, GLBA, FFIEC, and CFPB.
  • Strengthen the integrity of the credit union’s data assets to support analytics, reporting, and strategic decision-making.
  • Operate within the Data Governance Working Group as part of HVCU’s governance model, serving as the domain representative to the Data Governance Committee and bridging business data owners with IT/Data Engineering.
  • Ensure data handling practices align with the credit union’s Information Security Standards and Procedures (ISSP), Data Governance Charter, and regulatory obligations (GLBA, NCUA, CFPB).
  • Participate in the Data Governance Committee and Working Groups as the domain representative, contributing to enterprise-wide governance decisions and priority-setting.
  • Collaborate with Privacy and Compliance teams to maintain alignment between data governance and privacy policies, including data retention and consent management.
  • Support audit and examination activities by providing data documentation and evidence of control adherence.
  • Participate in the data access request and approval process by reviewing and validating access requests within assigned domains to ensure appropriate data use.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on data definitions, standards, and policies for assigned areas.
  • Educate and guide business teams on proper data handling and reporting practices.
  • Work cross-functionally with IT, Risk, Compliance, and Analytics to ensure business needs are supported while maintaining governance integrity.
  • Promote awareness of data governance principles throughout the credit union.
  • Contribute to data quality dashboards and performance metrics for Data Governance Committee reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline data capture and improve source-to-target accuracy.
  • Support implementation of metadata tools and data catalog capabilities.
  • Support data lineage documentation within the Databricks/Unity Catalog environment, maintaining system-level data dictionaries and integration flow maps for assigned domains.
  • Participate in change impact assessments when upstream data sources, business rules, or platform configurations change, ensuring downstream stakeholders are informed and governance controls are updated.
  • Adhere to all Credit Union policies, procedures, and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Participate in all required and recommended training and development including, but not limited to, Bank Secrecy Act training (BSA) and demonstrate attained knowledge.
  • Participate on Credit Union teams, projects and strategic initiatives when the opportunity arises.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
