About The Position

MITRE is seeking an intermediate-level Data Scientist for its Acquisition Affordability and Business Analytics Department within the MITRE Technology and Engineering Acquisition Division. The team works with colleagues across MITRE and government sponsors to address mission and business challenges through advanced analytics, economic modeling, and decision support. Its work includes cost estimation and analysis, investment economics and decision analysis, and strategic business and financial analytics. The role covers the analytics lifecycle: sourcing, integrating, and validating complex data; exploring and cleaning structured and unstructured datasets; applying statistical methods, predictive models, and other analytic techniques; interpreting results in policy, regulatory, budgetary, political, and operational contexts; and turning technical analyses into useful conclusions and recommendations. The Data Scientist may develop analytic tools, dashboards, and reusable capabilities, and communicate findings through reports, presentations, and in-person briefings for technical and non-technical audiences. The position also supports cost, economic, and business analyses, which may include life-cycle cost estimating, tradeoff and affordability analyses, decision analysis, portfolio investment analysis, business case analysis, and business intelligence and performance analytics. The work is varied and collaborative, often involving multiple projects and ambiguous problems. Team members engage directly with sponsors, work with limited structure or supervision, and adapt their approach to solve complex challenges. The role receives guidance from more senior staff while independently identifying and raising relevant issues, risks, findings, and opportunities. The position requires working onsite at least four days per week. The candidate must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret U.S. Government security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required for clearance eligibility. The hired candidate must obtain the Top Secret clearance within one year of hire.
