About The Position

Infrastructure Ontario (IO) is seeking a Data Science Manager with a focus on Analytics Engineering to join their evolving team. This role reports to the Director, Data and Analytics and acts as a strategic analytics partner and analytics engineering lead. The position is crucial for shaping business questions, translating requirements into scalable data and analytics solutions, and developing enterprise data products that deliver measurable business value. The Data Science Manager will play a key role in maturing IO's data and analytics capabilities by developing enterprise data products, curated analytical datasets, and scalable reporting and analytics solutions. This involves close collaboration with business stakeholders, data governance, data engineering, architecture, and IT teams to translate business requirements into reusable data assets supporting reporting, advanced analytics, self-service, and AI use cases. The ideal candidate will possess strong consulting and stakeholder engagement skills, combined with hands-on expertise in data modeling, analytics engineering, and modern data platforms. They should be adept at both defining requirements with business stakeholders and designing data models, developing data products, and enabling scalable analytics solutions.

Requirements

  • Several years of experience in analytics engineering, business intelligence, data analytics, data science, or a related field developing enterprise-scale data and analytics solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience designing analytical data models, business-ready datasets, semantic layers, reporting solutions, or enterprise data products.
  • Experience working with business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable analytical and reporting solutions.
  • Advanced SQL skills and experience working with large, complex datasets.
  • Strong experience in data modelling, dimensional modelling, star schemas, semantic modelling, and analytical data structures.
  • Experience building curated analytical datasets, enterprise reporting layers, and reusable data assets.
  • Experience with Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Snowflake, or similar modern analytics platforms.
  • Experience with medallion architecture and modern data platform methodologies.
  • Experience with Python, R, or equivalent analytical programming languages.
  • Experience with Power BI, semantic models, reporting platforms, and self-service analytics enablement.
  • Experience defining and implementing data quality controls and remediation processes.
  • Strong consulting skills, able to translate complex analytical concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-technical audiences.
  • Experience guiding clients through requirements gathering, business discovery, and analytics scoping.

  • Experience mentoring colleagues and providing technical leadership is an asset.
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Business Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand decision-making needs, reporting requirements, and opportunities to create value through enterprise data products.
  • Translate business requirements into scalable data models, curated datasets, KPI frameworks, semantic models, and analytics solutions.
  • Design, build, and maintain enterprise data products, business-ready datasets, and analytical data models that support reporting, self-service analytics, AI, and operational decision-making.
  • Define and implement business rules, metric definitions, KPI calculations, dimensional models, and semantic layers that enable trusted and consistent enterprise reporting.
  • Apply analytics engineering best practices to structure, transform, and model data within IO's centralized data platform, developing reusable assets, standards, and modelling patterns.
  • Collaborate with Data Governance Manager, Data Engineering, and IT teams to operationalize trusted and scalable analytics solutions.
  • Lead and support data quality initiatives, including data profiling, quality rule definition, issue identification, remediation planning, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Contribute to enterprise metadata standards, business definitions, reference data structures, and data governance practices.
  • Support the implementation of data products that are AI-ready, well-documented, and aligned with enterprise architecture and governance standards.
  • Promote best practices for analytics engineering, data modelling, data product development, and data lifecycle management.
  • Apply statistical and analytical techniques to uncover insights that support strategic and operational decision-making as needed.
  • Support the development and operationalization of predictive, forecasting, and AI-enabled solutions where business value can be demonstrated.
  • Collaborate with business and technology teams to assess opportunities for advanced analytics and artificial intelligence within enterprise data products.
  • Support the development of data literacy materials, standards, and enablement programs.
  • Empower stakeholders to interpret dashboards, analytics products, and data models with confidence.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to analysts within business units to modernize skills related to proper data structuring, data input design, and use of business intelligence tools to enable self-service within business lines.
  • Contribute to building a cohesive analytics community of practice across IO.
