About The Position

Clay is seeking a Data Science Manager to lead its Data Science and Analytics (DSA) team. This team acts as the company's center of excellence for experimentation, metric design, insights, and data-driven decision-making across all business functions, including Product, Marketing, Sales, Finance, and Partnerships. The manager will play a crucial role in shaping product and business strategy by partnering with executives, using data to establish internal narratives, and driving focus. The team leverages AI for data, notably through an in-house AI agent called "Monty," which has addressed self-serve analytics challenges. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with excellent data intuition, product and business acumen, and data storytelling abilities, capable of amplifying the team's strategic impact within a rapidly growing AI business.

Requirements

2+ years managing data scientists and/or analytics engineers.
6+ years overall in data science or analytics.
Track record of shipping work that has directly influenced product and business decisions.
Strong technical depth in experimentation, analytics, statistics, data modeling, and metric design.
Ability to coach and set a high technical bar for senior individual contributors.
Expertise in product or growth data science, with an expert-level understanding of user funnels (acquisition, activation, engagement, retention) in B2B or B2C products.
Skilled at stakeholder management, comfortable partnering with senior leaders across Product, GTM, and Finance, and pushing back when needed.
Proven experience influencing product roadmaps via data and insights.
Proven ability to connect data work to business outcomes.
Excellent data storytelling skills.
An empathetic communicator who expresses nuanced ideas clearly for different audiences and prioritizes curiosity and partnership.
Experience growing teams: hiring, coaching, and developing senior individual contributors.
Excitement about AI-native ways of working.

Responsibilities

Lead and grow the Data Science and Analytics team, managing and developing data scientists and analytics engineers.
Recruit, interview, and onboard top talent as the team scales.
Create shared standards for high-quality data work and coach the team to achieve them.
Establish team rituals that foster cohesion and support technical growth.
Set a high technical bar for experimentation, analysis, insights, metric design, and data modeling.
Ensure Clay remains at the forefront of AI innovations in data science and analytics.
Relentlessly focus on impact, ensuring the team makes the right tradeoffs and prioritizes work that meaningfully impacts the business trajectory.
Strategically partner and prioritize across the business, owning staffing to support key stakeholders while maintaining high standards and pushing back where necessary.
Ensure partners make data-informed decisions and have the necessary tooling, insights, and support.
Directly inform product and business strategy using data, sizing new investment opportunities, and identifying potential new directions.
Set the internal narrative using numbers.
Define key measurement frameworks, partnering with stakeholders to define business and product goals.
Lead the development and championing of key metrics, ensuring proper instrumentation and monitoring.
Foster a data-obsessed organization.
Develop a deep understanding of and empathy for users by partnering with UXR and customer feedback teams.
