About The Position

MISO is offering a 2027 Summer Internship Program for students pursuing graduate degrees in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science/Technology, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or related fields. This internship provides an opportunity to work on impactful AI and software engineering projects, contributing to MISO's mission of ensuring system reliability, resilience, and performance for 45 million people. Interns will explore and build new technologies, support AI-enabled workflows, and collaborate with various teams. The program also includes networking activities, development programming, and a final presentation. MISO manages the electricity grid in the Central U.S. and is at the forefront of innovation in the electric industry, dealing with digitalization, distributed resources, renewable energy, and a changing grid. The company utilizes groundbreaking research and advanced technology to ensure reliable power flow to millions of Americans.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a graduate degree in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science/Technology, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Skills in Python, GitHub, GitHub Copilot, generative AI, LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, agent frameworks, and automation principles.
  • Understanding or excitement to learn cloud infrastructure concepts, networking basics, observability, and security fundamentals.
  • Curious, creative, collaborative learners who enjoy experimenting, solving problems, and exploring new technologies.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to ask thoughtful questions, and thrive in hands-on technical environments.
  • Available to start Wednesday, June 2nd, 2027 and continue through Friday, August 13th, 2027.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US without VISA sponsorship (including OPT/CPT).

Responsibilities

  • Work on real AI and software engineering projects using Python, GitHub, cloud platforms, and modern AI frameworks.
  • Explore and build new technologies, from early prototypes to production-ready tools.
  • Support AI-enabled workflows such as data pipelines, automation, LLM/RAG agents, observability dashboards, or pilot features.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, product teams, and emerging-tech specialists to refine requirements, test concepts, evaluate performance, and improve system reliability.
  • Attend community service events, intern socials, networking activities, and development programming.
  • Deliver a final presentation summarizing project work, recommendations, and areas of impact.
