About The Position

The Office of School Health (OSH) is a joint Program of the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene responsible for promoting the health of millions of school children enrolled in public and non 'public schools in the New York City. Services to students include case management of chronic health problems, preventive health screening, urgent care, medication administration, preventive counseling, health education, referral for care and assurance of ongoing effective treatment. OSH has been the provider of public health services in the schools for 100 years.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and five years of full-time professional satisfactory experience acquired within the last fifteen years, in a health services setting such as a laboratory, hospital, or other patient care facility, or in a public health, environmental health, or mental hygiene program, at least 18 months of which must have been in a managerial capacity, consisting of managerial experience clearly demonstrating the ability to perform difficult and responsible managerial work, requiring independent decision-making concerning program management, planning, allocation of resources, and the scheduling and assignment of work.
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above.
  • All candidates must have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree and 18 months of managerial experience as described in "1" above.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and verifies all vision data submitted by contracted optical vendors through program regional data managers to ensure accuracy
  • Utilizes Biscom, ASHR and OSH Management data systems to create vision screening reports
  • Provides Vision and Office of School Health (OSH) Management Teams with data reports as needed (weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually)
  • Provides Optical Vendors with monthly data reports
  • Collaborates with contracted vendors to address discrepancies identified with submitted data files
  • Meets bi-weekly with Program regional data managers and optical vendors
  • Monitor staffs time and attendance, take appropriate corrective actions, when necessary, complete annual Performance Evaluations
  • Develops policies and procedures for submission of vision data files
  • Develops presentations for training staff and optical vendors on submission of vision data
  • Provides weekly updates to Program Director
  • Performs additional duties assigned by Director
