About The Position

The Data Integration Intern supports Upper Peninsula Health Care Solutions (UPHCS) and Upper Peninsula Health Information Exchange (UPHIE) health IT projects and initiatives and assists on the integration and transmission of data. The Data Integration Intern will work with internal and external stakeholders to support client initiatives and achieve our overall mission of improving health in the communities we serve.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in undergraduate Computer Science, Data Science, or similar courses.
  • Interest in advancing knowledge about healthcare.
  • Basic knowledge or understanding of computer or data science.
  • Keyboarding proficiency and working knowledge of PC business applications (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Experience with the following programming languages: SQL, Python, JavaScript, Java
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (photocopier/scanner, fax, etc.)
  • High level of technical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to enter and access information from a computer
  • Ability to access all areas of the UPHP offices

Nice To Haves

  • Enrolled in Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems, Health Informatics, Data Analytics, Nursing, or related field.
  • Previous data science experience.
  • Fullstack web development
  • Proficiency in the following languages: Python, JavaScript, Java, Node.js, SQL
  • Experience with XML, CSV, JSON file formats, or other common healthcare related file types

Responsibilities

  • Follows established Upper Peninsula Health Plan (UPHP) policies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, and sensitivity to confidential information.
  • Works with internal stakeholders and external partners to acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain reporting databases and data systems.
  • Performs data mapping, data conversion, data quality assurance, and data set creation using internal and external data sources.
  • Develops solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Creates process documentation for technical use cases, including but not limited to client workflow and gap analysis, process improvement, data flow diagrams, standard operating procedures, and end-user guides.
  • Receives, generates, cleans, and parses large CSV files to meet conformance standards and requirements outlined by client and internal processes.
  • Maintains and enhances Node.js applications by troubleshooting issues, and implements new features in alignment with business requirements and coding best practices.
  • Collaborates with UPHCS and UPHIE teams to strengthen initiatives for all health IT related use cases and tools.
  • Maintains confidentiality of client data.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
