About The Position

Vantage is seeking a mid-level Data Infrastructure and Systems Specialist to support the Utility Billing team within Business Operations. The role helps ensure the reliability, accuracy, traceability, and automation of energy-metering and billing data across North American facilities. It coordinates with Construction, Site Operations, Automation, IT Development, Systems Support, and Utility Billing Operations to enable accurate ingestion, processing, validation, and delivery of physical meter data from Building Management Systems (BMS) and Ignition into internal PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server environments. The Specialist develops and supports scalable data solutions, validates meter readings and configurations, investigates discrepancies affecting billing and reporting, builds automation, and contributes to monthly billing activities. The role supports billing readiness, compliance, maintainability, and operational efficiency for new and existing facilities. The position is based in Denver, Colorado; Ashburn, Virginia; or Atlanta, Georgia, and follows a flexible work policy requiring three days onsite and two flexible days.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Two to three years of relevant experience supporting production databases, data systems, or data-intensive applications using one or more of MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, or Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Intermediate to advanced SQL skills, including the ability to create queries for reporting, data validation, troubleshooting, and reconciliation.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
  • Working proficiency in Python and Bash, with experience in Golang and/or Java; ability to develop and support automation and backend services.
  • Experience with GitHub, Azure DevOps, Azure Data Lake, CI/CD practices, and database change-management tools such as Liquibase.
  • Understanding of database structures, system integrations, data pipelines, data quality controls, and performance considerations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate issues methodically and translate findings into practical corrective actions.
  • High level of accuracy, thoroughness, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and contribute effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Results-oriented and proactive approach, with a commitment to customer success, continuous improvement, and professional growth.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and implementation of database tables, views, stored procedures, and functions for reporting tools and downstream applications, in coordination with the responsible DBA and Global Software Development (GSD) teams.
  • Assist with approved schema changes and database deployments for internal SQL environments using established change-management and CI/CD processes, including Liquibase where applicable.
  • Maintain accurate, version-controlled documentation for CoreDB, configuration designs, data structures, and implemented changes.
  • Support database access requests under approved DBA processes and security guidelines; database access administration remains with the responsible DBA team.
  • Develop and optimize complex SQL queries for high-volume interval meter-data analysis, reporting, validation, reconciliation, and troubleshooting.
  • Investigate slow or inefficient queries, unexpected data behavior, and discrepancies between source and downstream systems.
  • Trace data lineage from source meter tags to identify gaps, incorrect mappings, and processing issues.
  • Develop and maintain backend services and automation solutions using Python, Golang, Java, Bash, and SQL for utility billing operations, sustainability tracking, scheduled processes, and approved GSD initiatives.
  • Build and optimize internal tools for billing workflows, statement generation, data reconciliation, scheduled jobs, and other repeatable activities.
  • Maintain GitHub-hosted tools and automations, including Azure Data Lake integrations, using approved version-control and CI/CD practices.
  • Identify recurring manual validation, correction, and reconciliation tasks and develop documented, reusable solutions with appropriate testing, monitoring, and error handling.
  • Monitor end-to-end data pipelines from site metering systems and BMS/Ignition through acquisition layers and into PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server/Historian databases.
  • Validate data flow, configuration uploads, and meter readings for completeness, accuracy, and availability for billing and reporting.
  • Perform data reconciliation and approved interpolation or correction for missing, corrupted, or inconsistent readings, and automate error handling where appropriate.
  • Investigate meter and data discrepancies, perform root-cause analysis across Site, BMS, acquisition, and database layers, and coordinate corrective actions with responsible teams.
  • Review meter anomalies and support resolution of metering issues using Ignition and other approved tools; retain supporting data for audit and operational review.
  • Support monthly utility billing cycles, including statement generation, billing-data validation, sample/mock bill verification, accuracy review, and timely invoice preparation.
  • Serve as a primary technical contact for sample/mock billing verification and data-related questions during commissioning activities.
  • Fulfill approved ad hoc data requests from management and cross-functional teams to support business and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate data and system activities for onboarding new buildings, including configuration uploads, approved database provisioning requests, data validation, and billing-readiness verification.
  • Partner with Construction, Automation Systems, and other responsible teams on end-to-end sample/mock billing testing and verification.
  • Support commissioning and customer build-out activities to ensure metering data and related systems are operable, maintainable, billable, and suitable for required reporting.
  • Review critical incidents, work orders, changes, releases, and related processes within the role's area of responsibility to confirm data accuracy, control compliance, and operational readiness.
  • Partner with Application Support, Development, Site Operations, Construction, Digital Products, DBA, and GSD teams to resolve issues and improve data-correction workflows, automation, and system performance.
  • Identify process and control gaps and implement or recommend improvements that reduce errors, increase efficiency, and strengthen billing data and supporting systems.
  • Provide timely support for urgent metering, integration, pipeline, and billing-data issues within the role's scope.
  • Communicate investigation findings, business impact, risks, dependencies, and resolution status clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
