About The Position

BRMi is seeking a Data Governance Analyst to support a large financial services client’s Enterprise Data Governance program, with a focus on secure and permanent data deletion, data discovery, control implementation, and testing. The successful candidate will support the execution of enterprise data governance plans designed to ensure data is appropriately identified, governed, retained, and permanently deleted in accordance with established policies, controls, and regulatory requirements. This role will work across business, data, technology, risk, and governance teams to develop and implement data deletion processes, validate control effectiveness, and maintain accurate inventories and metadata for enterprise datasets. The ideal candidate will combine strong data governance and analytical experience with hands-on technical capabilities across modern Azure data platforms. This position requires advanced SQL skills and experience working with Databricks, Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Delta Lake, Azure Data Factory (ADF), Python, and PySpark.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Business, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience supporting enterprise data governance, data management, data lifecycle management, data retention, data deletion, or related initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles, controls, policies, standards, and frameworks.
  • Experience conducting dataset discovery, data inventory, metadata management, or data classification activities.
  • Experience developing and executing test plans to validate implementation and effectiveness of data-related controls.
  • Strong data analysis skills with the ability to work with large and complex datasets.
  • Advanced SQL skills, including the ability to develop complex queries for data discovery, reconciliation, analysis, and validation.
  • Hands-on experience with Databricks.
  • Experience working with Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS).
  • Experience with Delta Lake and modern data lake/lakehouse architectures.
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory (ADF).
  • Working knowledge of Python and PySpark for data analysis and processing.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple activities, stakeholders, and deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical and governance concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively across business, technology, risk, compliance, and data governance teams.

Responsibilities

  • Support the execution of Enterprise Data Governance Services plans and initiatives related to secure and permanent data deletion.
  • Partner with business, technology, risk, and data stakeholders to develop, implement, document, and maintain data deletion controls and processes.
  • Ensure data deletion processes and controls align with established enterprise data governance frameworks, policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Conduct dataset discovery and inventory activities across Data Lake zones to identify data assets, understand data lineage and usage, and determine applicable governance and deletion requirements.
  • Maintain accurate metadata, dataset inventories, classifications, and other governance documentation.
  • Analyze complex datasets and data environments to identify data subject to retention and deletion requirements.
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate that data deletion controls and processes have been fully and effectively implemented.
  • Perform control testing, document results, identify gaps or deficiencies, and support remediation activities.
  • Validate successful deletion or disposition of data across applicable platforms and data stores.
  • Use advanced SQL, Python, and PySpark to query, analyze, reconcile, and validate large datasets.
  • Work within Databricks, ADLS, Delta Lake, and Azure Data Factory environments to support data discovery, analysis, validation, and governance activities.
  • Analyze control and testing results to identify trends, risks, exceptions, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Support evolving data governance requirements and assist in developing controls that address emerging organizational, technology, and regulatory needs.
  • Coordinate project activities, dependencies, milestones, risks, and deliverables across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Develop clear documentation, reports, presentations, and status updates for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Support audit, compliance, risk, and governance requests by providing appropriate documentation and evidence.
  • Communicate findings, risks, dependencies, and recommendations clearly to stakeholders and management.
  • Perform other duties as required.
