Data Excellence Manager YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Goal of the role: You define and drive the Pharma Supply Chain data strategy to turn data into measurable business value. This role partners across Supply Chain, planning, logistics, customer as well as product, engineering, analytics, compliance, to prioritize data investments, champion data governance and operating models, and accelerate data-driven decision-making. The ideal candidate combines strategic vision, technical fluency, data product-thinking, and strong stakeholder influence. The primary responsibilities of this role, Data Excellence Manager are to: Be a strategic thought leader and sparring partner with the Head of Data Excellence for Pharma Supply Chain; Develop and communicate a multi-year data strategy that aligns with Pharma Supply Chain objectives and delivers measurable business outcomes (revenue growth, cost savings, improved customer experience); Create and maintain a prioritized data product roadmap (data foundations, analytics, ML/AI use cases, data sharing) with clear business owners and success metrics; Partner with Data Reliability Manager refine and implement a standardized data governance framework across SCM (data quality, lineage, metadata, ownership, rules, roles, processes, technologies and compliance) that is embedded it in operating processes; Champion data product management: define value propositions, KPIs, adoption plans, and launch/go-to-market for internal data products (data catalog, customer 360, feature store, reporting suites); Lead cross-functional programs to operationalize data strategy (platform migrations, data mesh initiatives, analytics enablement); Advise executive leadership on data-related risks, opportunities, technology choices, and vendor strategy; evaluate and prioritize investments; Strongly collaborate with cross-disciplinary team members (data product owners, data stewards, strategy analysts), and coordinate with engineering, analytics, and security teams; Establish measurement and reporting for data strategy progress (ROI, adoption, data quality improvements, time-to-insight); Partner and champion to drive data literacy and change management across the organization: training, playbooks, and governance rituals; Outcomes / success metrics Collaborate with Data Analytics manager and Data Reliability manager to endure the following: Measurable improvement in data quality and lineage (e.g., reduced critical data incidents by X%); Increased usage and adoption of core data products (active users, queries, downstream dependencies); Reduction in time-to-insight for key business questions; Compliance readiness and reduced regulatory risk for data-related controls; Documented cost/benefit of major data investments and clear ROI on prioritized initiatives. WHO YOU ARE Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following: Required Qualifications: Proven experience building and executing enterprise-level data strategies and roadmaps; Strong cross-functional leadership and stakeholder management with senior executives; Broad technical fluency across data engineering, analytics, BI, ML/AI, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure); Familiarity with data governance, metadata management, data catalogs, and privacy/compliance frameworks (DAMA, GDPR, CCPA, GxP where relevant); Excellent written and verbal communication; able to translate technical trade-offs into business impact. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with data mesh, domain-oriented data architectures, or implementing decentralized data governance; Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of experience in data strategy, analytics strategy, data product management or related roles, preferably within the pharmaceutical industry; 3+ years in a leadership role. Master’s degree preferred; Hands-on background in analytics, data engineering, or machine learning programs; Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $128,000 to $192,000. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc..
