Data Engineering Co-op (Spring 2027)

LineVision, Inc.Boston, MA
Hybrid

About The Position

Accelerate LineVision's data platform modernization while building hands-on experience with cloud-native data engineering in the energy sector. The successful Data Engineering Co-op will support the hardening of LineVision's next-generation data platform, working directly with our Data & Microservices team to strengthen data quality, governance, and reliability as we prepare the platform for its first on-premises utility deployments. Join our collaborative Platform team at LineVision, named one of the Built In Best Places to Work in Boston for three years running.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in SQL to validate data across environments, troubleshoot schema inconsistencies, and verify data integrity as we harden the platform
  • Python skills to debug pipeline and service code, automate data validation, and build data quality and governance-conformance checks
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud services (e.g., S3) and interest in containerized, Kubernetes-based services to work with our pipelines, object storage, and service infrastructure
  • Understanding of core data engineering concepts — data modeling, database design, and layered/pipeline data architecture — with curiosity about data governance, provenance, and lineage
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with Platform, Quality, and other cross-functional teams on data requirements and validation
  • Technical documentation ability to capture processes, write validation scripts, and build reference materials for the team

Responsibilities

  • Build data quality monitoring and observability across our Nexus ingestion and serving pipelines, catching accuracy, completeness, and consistency issues before they reach customers
  • Implement and extend data lineage tracking across our pipelines to improve visibility into how data flows and transforms from ingestion through the Data API
  • Develop automated conformance checks that verify services emit provenance, lineage, and audit events correctly against our governance schemas
  • Help expand audit event coverage beyond pipeline-run events to registry changes, reference-data promotions, and data mutations, strengthening our compliance posture ahead of on-prem deployment
  • Validate data integrity and service behavior across our deployment profiles (LineVision cloud and customer on-premises), building the test coverage and parity checks that harden Nexus for our first on-prem customer
  • Evaluate and prototype datastore and tooling options (time-series stores, object storage, table formats) for specific hardening use cases
  • Document data flows, schema designs, and architectural decisions to build institutional knowledge

Benefits

  • Trust-based PTO
  • Flexible hybrid work schedule
