About The Position

Huron is hiring a Data Engineer for its Clinical Insights engineering organization. This role supports the reliable operation and delivery of clinical data pipelines and client-facing applications across more than 10 client environments. It spans DataOps, DevOps, and delivery engineering, covering SFTP ingestion, AWS data lake operations, application environment setup and deployment support, pipeline monitoring, and incident response. This is an infrastructure and operations role, not a business intelligence or analytics position. The Data Engineer supports daily pipeline operations, validates data flows, helps provision and configure client environments, and assists with application deployments from setup through go-live stabilization and ongoing support. The role contributes to Jenkins CI/CD pipelines, AWS infrastructure, Posit Connect administration, monitoring and alerting, runbooks, and operational documentation. The position reports to the team's DataOps lead and works under that lead's technical direction on environment provisioning, infrastructure changes, and architectural decisions. The team is also preparing to migrate its data lake and core tables to Snowflake.

Requirements

  • U.S. work authorization.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2–3 years of experience in data engineering, DevOps, or DataOps roles, including hands-on support of production data pipelines.
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS data pipeline infrastructure, including S3, Athena, Lambda, EC2, and event-driven architectures such as SNS/SQS.
  • Strong Python scripting ability for data ingestion, validation, and pipeline automation, and comfort with Bash.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins or equivalent, and Git-based version control practices including branch protection and pull request workflows.
  • Experience setting up, configuring, and supporting application deployments, not only writing pipeline code.
  • Experience managing multi-client or multi-tenant data environments, including onboarding and provisioning new environments.
  • Experience participating in incident response and root cause analysis for data pipeline and application issues.
  • Ability to work as a generalist across infrastructure, data engineering, and DevOps in a fast-moving, client-driven environment where priorities may shift.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Snowflake or other modern cloud data warehouse platforms.
  • Familiarity with Posit Connect or R/Shiny environments.
  • Docker and containerized deployment experience.
  • SAML/SSO certificate management and cloud security practices, including IAM key rotation and PGP encryption.
  • Healthcare data environment experience, including SFTP clinical file delivery, PHI handling, or HL7/ADT familiarity.
  • Experience building monitoring and alerting systems for data pipelines.
  • Occasional direct client IT coordination experience, such as resolving file delivery issues, certificate renewals, or data quality questions.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily operation and monitoring of data pipelines across more than 10 concurrent client environments; triage no-data, bad-data, and processing failures and escalate complex issues.
  • Set up and configure client-facing application environments, support production deployments, and assist with go-live stabilization and post-launch monitoring.
  • Validate daily data loads and refreshes across client applications, using console and log checks and deeper investigation when needed.
  • Investigate application and data-load issues, diagnose root causes across pipeline and application layers, and support remediation.
  • Build and maintain client-specific data ingestion pipelines using SFTP, S3, event-driven triggers, and file validation.
  • Build and maintain reusable data validation scripts and support historical data ingestion for new client onboardings.
  • Resolve data quality incidents, including missing files, null values, file extension issues, and reprocessing needs.
  • Support the team's migration of its data lake and core tables to Snowflake.
  • Distinguish Lambda failures from other pipeline failures, investigate processing failures, and implement temporary fixes and permanent remediation.
  • Build data integrity alerts and data-volume quality-control dashboards to track pipeline health across clients.
  • Help manage AWS infrastructure, including EC2, S3, RDS, Athena, IAM, Lambda, and SNS/SQS.
  • Support Posit Connect administration, including configuration, user access, and runtime management.
  • Provision new client instances, including database setup, ingestion configuration, and access controls, and coordinate with client IT teams on file formats, schedules, and encryption.
  • Handle SAML/SSO certificate management and PGP encryption setup for secure client file delivery.
  • Help enforce code repository governance, including branch protection, pull request approval requirements, and deployment controls.
  • Build and maintain Jenkins-based CI/CD pipelines and set up and validate development and staging environments.
  • Support the team's Docker-based mono-repository deployment architecture across client environments.
  • Maintain runbooks and operational documentation and execute and document client offboarding processes.
  • Support mandatory compliance activities, PHI data classification, audit control documentation, certificate renewals, access restrictions, and credential rotation.
