Intersect
12d$118,000 - $137,000Remote

About The Position

As part of Intersect’s Data team, you’ll architect and build the cloud-native data infrastructure that powers analytics, operational visibility, and advanced modeling across the company. This role is responsible for designing scalable data pipelines, both batch and real-time, that transform complex datasets into reliable, high-performance assets for decision-making. You’ll serve as a subject matter expert in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and BigQuery while partnering closely with Operations, Software Engineering, and other stakeholders to deliver trusted, production-grade data systems. A key focus of this role includes building and optimizing streaming architectures to ingest and process real-time telemetry and operational data. This team plays a critical role in advancing Intersect’s mission to accelerate the clean energy transition by building the data foundation that supports operational excellence and informed decision-making. The Data team partners across Development, Engineering, Operations, and Technology to deliver scalable, secure, and reliable data systems. Joining this team means shaping the architecture that enables real-time insight across a growing infrastructure portfolio.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of experience in Data Engineering or a related role
  • Deep hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, including BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, and Dataflow or Dataproc
  • Strong programming skills in Python and advanced SQL
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining real-time streaming data architectures
  • Experience with data orchestration tools such as Cloud Composer (Airflow) or similar platforms
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT design, and scalable architecture principles
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field—or equivalent practical experience
  • Clear communication skills and a collaborative work style that will help you succeed in cross-functional environments

Nice To Haves

  • Background in the power, utility, or infrastructure sectors
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems, industrial historians (e.g., PI System), time-series databases, or industrial IoT data
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines for data deployments
  • Familiarity with additional programming languages such as Rust

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, and monitor robust data pipelines that support both batch and real-time processing
  • Develop cloud-native architectures capable of scaling with increasing data volumes and system complexity
  • Implement orchestration workflows to ensure reliable, automated pipeline execution
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for GCP data services, including BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, and Dataflow/Dataproc
  • Design and optimize BigQuery schemas, partitioning, and clustering for performance and cost efficiency
  • Monitor and continuously improve query performance and infrastructure utilization
  • Architect and manage streaming data pipelines using technologies such as Pub/Sub, Dataflow (Apache Beam), or Kafka
  • Ingest and process real-time telemetry and operational data with high reliability and low latency
  • Ensure fault tolerance and resilience across streaming systems
  • Implement automated data validation, monitoring, and alerting frameworks
  • Establish data governance best practices to maintain accuracy, security, and integrity
  • Document data models, transformations, and pipeline logic to support long-term maintainability
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and Software teams to understand data requirements and deliver production-ready datasets
  • Support advanced analytics, reporting, and machine learning initiatives
  • Translate complex data challenges into scalable technical solutions
