About The Position

Garner is seeking a Data Engineer II to join its Engineering team. The role calls for a high sense of ownership, enthusiasm for Garner’s mission, willingness to learn and teach others, and the ability to deliver across the technology stack. The ideal candidate has experience with a modern data stack and building data pipelines with Python and SQL in AWS. The position is based in Garner’s New York City office, with in-office work required three days per week: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The engineer will build and maintain data infrastructure that supports business intelligence, marketing, and data science research, while helping improve data validation and protect user privacy and security.

Requirements

At least 2 years of software or data engineering experience, including experience in distributed data processing, data warehousing, data governance, Big Data, data variance, data privacy, and data quality.
Expertise in SQL and Python.
Expertise in building scalable data pipelines, query optimization, data modeling, and defining reusable datasets.
Experience with orchestration tools, especially Airflow; databases, especially PostgreSQL; and data warehouses, especially Snowflake.
A desire to contribute to a high-performing, mission-driven team characterized by urgency, individual accountability, and authentic feedback.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with SQL tuning, medallion and event-driven architectures, and telemetry.
Familiarity with healthcare or insurance.
Familiarity with data security and HIPPA compliance.

Responsibilities

Build, optimize, and maintain data pipelines that power the business.
Define and build abstracted, reusable datasets for Business Intelligence, Marketing, and Data Science Research.
Design, build, and promote a federated data validation framework to monitor potential data inconsistencies.
Protect users’ privacy and security through best practices.
