About The Position

The Data Engineer II is responsible for contributing to team and department solution design architecture, and the development and implementation of appropriate standards and strategies for all sources of data. This role involves being a key contributor for data stewardship workgroups and teams in data management and governance activities, and acting as a champion or ambassador of metadata and data quality practices across the organization. The position requires gaining an understanding of stakeholder business culture and priorities, and the need for different modeling techniques when eliciting definitions and data quality requirements. The Data Engineer II is accountable and responsible for the engineering success of specific data governance engineering programs, such as the Metadata and Cataloging Program and the Data Quality Program. This role involves performing analysis and research to support and/or develop glossary definitions, policies, programs, standards, guidelines, and workflows, and leading the development and maintenance of metadata catalogs. Additionally, the role involves identifying and quantifying data-related pain points within the organization and assisting in the development of remediation plans, as well as collaborating with SMEs to develop business rules that measure and assure data quality, and facilitating discussions with end users and data modelers. The Data Engineer II will lead efforts to quantify and qualify reported data quality issues and develop and report program metrics to demonstrate progress and compliance. The role sets day-to-day objectives and delivers job responsibilities that may vary outside typical norms or practices. Work consists of tasks that are occasionally not routine, and the individual often works independently, applying discretion within established operational boundaries and procedures. Problems and issues faced are occasionally vague and may need some analysis to understand. Adjustments to work methods may be needed to solve problems that are not immediately evident in existing work processes and systems, though references or help from norms and standard procedures may be available. Any other job duties as requested will also be performed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent years of relevant work experience is required.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience designing and developing ETL and/or BI solutions is required.
  • Demonstrable experience in all stages of definition, design, implementation, testing, and deployment of complex database, ETL, BI, and Analytical solutions is required.
  • Proven ability to write complex SQL queries.
  • Proven ability developing medium to complex data quality profiling or metadata analysis processes with an industry-leading tool.
  • Ability to manage multiple medium to large scale projects while demonstrating a sense of urgency.
  • Solid understanding of data management and governance concepts, especially data quality and metadata management.
  • Proven understanding of relational database theory.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with stakeholders at all different levels.
  • Effective problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including excellent written and verbal communication skills; listening and critical thinking.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks while working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Customer Service oriented.
