The Data Engineer II is responsible for contributing to team and department solution design architecture, and the development and implementation of appropriate standards and strategies for all sources of data. This role involves being a key contributor for data stewardship workgroups and teams in data management and governance activities, and acting as a champion or ambassador of metadata and data quality practices across the organization. The position requires gaining an understanding of stakeholder business culture and priorities, and the need for different modeling techniques when eliciting definitions and data quality requirements. The Data Engineer II is accountable and responsible for the engineering success of specific data governance engineering programs, such as the Metadata and Cataloging Program and the Data Quality Program. This role involves performing analysis and research to support and/or develop glossary definitions, policies, programs, standards, guidelines, and workflows, and leading the development and maintenance of metadata catalogs. Additionally, the role involves identifying and quantifying data-related pain points within the organization and assisting in the development of remediation plans, as well as collaborating with SMEs to develop business rules that measure and assure data quality, and facilitating discussions with end users and data modelers. The Data Engineer II will lead efforts to quantify and qualify reported data quality issues and develop and report program metrics to demonstrate progress and compliance. The role sets day-to-day objectives and delivers job responsibilities that may vary outside typical norms or practices. Work consists of tasks that are occasionally not routine, and the individual often works independently, applying discretion within established operational boundaries and procedures. Problems and issues faced are occasionally vague and may need some analysis to understand. Adjustments to work methods may be needed to solve problems that are not immediately evident in existing work processes and systems, though references or help from norms and standard procedures may be available. Any other job duties as requested will also be performed.
