About The Position

LLH Healthcare is seeking a Data Engineer – Healthcare Data Intake to support the ingestion, transformation, validation, and management of healthcare data from a variety of internal and external sources. In this role, you will work with healthcare data that does not always arrive in a clean or standardized format—including claims, eligibility files, provider rosters, EHR extracts, lab results, and partner-provided CSV and Excel files. You will be responsible for building reliable data pipelines, improving data quality, automating manual processes, and helping streamline the onboarding of new data partners. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who is comfortable working with complex, messy datasets and enjoys finding ways to make data processes more efficient, accurate, and scalable.

Requirements

1–4 years of experience in Data Engineering, Data Analytics, Software Engineering, ETL Development, or a related technical role.
Experience working with and cleaning messy, incomplete, or inconsistent real-world datasets.
Experience building or maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines.
Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational data.
Experience with Python or another programming/scripting language used for data processing.
Familiarity with workflow and data transformation tools such as Airflow, dbt, or similar technologies.
Experience using Git and participating in code reviews.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to identify data-quality issues and determine appropriate solutions.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work with large volumes of data.
Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience working with healthcare data.
Familiarity with healthcare data standards and formats such as EDI, HL7, or FHIR.
Experience working with healthcare claims, eligibility, provider, clinical, or laboratory data.
Experience with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Databricks.
Familiarity with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
Experience developing automated data validation or reconciliation processes.
Understanding of HIPAA, PHI, and healthcare data-security requirements.
Experience using machine learning or large language models (LLMs) for data extraction, classification, mapping, or other data-processing tasks.

Responsibilities

Build, maintain, and improve data pipelines that ingest healthcare data from multiple sources and formats.
Process and transform data including claims, eligibility, provider rosters, EHR extracts, lab results, and partner files.
Parse and normalize non-standard flat files, CSVs, Excel files, and other structured or semi-structured data.
Develop automated solutions for field mapping and data transformation to reduce manual work and accelerate the onboarding of new partners and clients.
Create and maintain data quality checks to identify missing, inaccurate, duplicated, or incorrectly formatted data.
Investigate and troubleshoot failed data loads, rejected records, and other data-quality issues.
Work with internal teams and external partners to understand file specifications, mapping requirements, and data discrepancies.
Develop reusable tools and processes that improve the efficiency and reliability of healthcare data intake.
Monitor data pipelines and proactively identify and resolve processing issues.
Document data mappings, pipeline processes, business rules, and technical requirements.
Use Git and established code-review processes to maintain high-quality, reliable code.
Handle Protected Health Information (PHI) securely and follow HIPAA requirements and organizational data-security standards.
Collaborate with engineering, product, implementation, operations, and other teams to support data-related projects and client implementations.
