About The Position

This role is for a Data Designer III within the Technology Solutions Line of Business. The position is located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, with standard hours of 37.5 per week. The salary range is $96,900 - $136,800 CAD, with eligibility for a discretionary variable compensation award. The role involves leading complex analysis in an evolving data environment, gathering and documenting data requirements, applying standards for data accuracy and accessibility, and working with data owners to manage data dictionaries and catalogs. The position also involves providing thought leadership on data management solutions, ensuring policies and practices meet business needs and comply with requirements, and leading cross-functional initiatives as a subject matter expert. It requires staying updated on emerging issues, trends, and regulatory requirements, and maintaining a culture of risk management. Collaboration with technology and business teams is key to ensure alignment and successful delivery of data solutions. The role facilitates data analysis, assists with complex issues, and validates business cases. It provides oversight on business impact post-implementation and coordinates business requirements with technical teams, ensuring smooth integration and effective source code management. The Data Designer III will lead or participate in design reviews, manage change requests, and lead initiatives on data governance and data management. Documentation of business requirements, technical decisions, risks, and lessons learned is essential. The role also involves safeguarding organizational interests, managing business risks, and ensuring compliance. Staying current on industry trends and fostering cross-functional collaboration are also important aspects of this position. The role requires substantial knowledge and expertise in complex data management, with master-level conceptual expertise and knowledge of broader related areas. It serves as a primary subject matter expert, consulting on business information management processes and procedures. Expert analytical and problem-solving skills are required, along with fluency in multiple programming languages. The role involves working autonomously, coaching others, and managing/directing activities related to the analysis, design, and support of business information management solutions. In-depth expertise with big data solutions and familiarity with big data technologies are expected, along with keeping abreast of rapid business and technology innovation in business information management. Familiarity with visualization tools is generally required. The role typically reports to a Senior Manager or Executive.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree or Technical Certificate and/or 5+ years of relevant experience from a business administration, statistical, mathematical, scientific or financial background

Responsibilities

  • Lead on complex analysis in an evolving data environment
  • Gather, analyze, document and maintain all data requirements related to the business applications, interfaces, and reporting environments in different kinds of data maps
  • Apply standards and best practices to ensure that the application’s data is accurate, complete, current, understandable, and accessible
  • Work with data owners to define and manage data dictionary / catalog for respective data platforms, systems / servers / applications
  • Flow to advice on efforts of data modelers, data warehouse/data integration developers, and data management process in data lakes, database usage and data warehousing
  • Adopt, maintain and enhance Enterprise Data Governance related policies, in alignment with TD's Enterprise standards
  • Provide thought leadership and insights on emerging data information management solutions and/or frameworks
  • Ensure respective programs / policies / practices are well managed, meet business needs, comply with internal and external requirements, and align with business priorities
  • Provide leadership in cross-functional / enterprise initiatives as a top expert, helping to identify risk / provide guidance for complex situations across multiple domains
  • Keep updated on emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assess potential impacts
  • Maintain a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite
  • Collaborate with technology and business teams to ensure alignment and guide successful delivery of data solutions
  • Facilitate data analysis and investigations for business users and QA teams, assisting with complex issues and validating business cases during development and testing phases
  • Provide oversight on business impact post-implementation, ensuring the data solution meets the intended business outcomes during the warranty period
  • Coordinate business requirements with technical teams with an oversight of ensuring smooth integration of data into source code repositories and promoting effective source code management practices
  • Lead or participate in business and technical design reviews, ensuring that data architectures meet both operational and business objectives
  • Raise and manage change requests in collaboration with business stakeholders, supporting release management processes and ensuring timely delivery
  • Lead initiatives on data governance and data management by ensuring business requirements align with enterprise data governance policies
  • Ensure business metadata and data lineage are well-documented and integrated with enterprise metadata management tools, facilitating better business understanding
  • Adhere to and promote best practices for data security, ensuring both technical and business aspects are protected from common vulnerabilities
  • Document business requirements and technical decisions, ensuring risks, lessons learned, and enhancement opportunities are communicated effectively across teams
  • Safeguard the organization's interests, identifying and managing business risks, while ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory guidelines
  • Stay current on industry trends, expanding knowledge of business processes, data tools, and best practices to improve collaboration between business and technology teams
  • Enable cross-functional collaboration, sharing knowledge and best practices between business users and technology teams to enhance overall project success
