About The Position

L&I's Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) administers the Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA) law by developing and enforcing rules that protect workers from hazardous job conditions. DOSH is seeking a Data Consultant 2 to provide critical operational, data, and administrative support to our Compliance Managers, supervisors, and Compliance Safety & Health Investigators (CISHIs). This position serves as a key member of the Region 8 & 9 compliance team, helping investigators focus on protecting workers by ensuring inspection files, compliance records, communications, and data systems are accurate, organized, and up to date. Success in this role requires strong computer skills, excellent time management, effective communication, and a positive, team-oriented approach. You'll work with a variety of electronic systems, databases, SharePoint tools, spreadsheets, and case management systems while coordinating with staff, employers, and stakeholders throughout Washington State. Your work directly supports DOSH's mission: "Keep Washington Safe and Working." For this position, you will work in the office much of the time. Occasionally you will travel to other L&I offices to retrieve data and files. The assigned duty station may be any one of the following: Mt. Vernon, Everett, Seattle, or Bellevue, WA. King County Premium Pay - If assigned to a permanent duty station in King County, employees will receive 5% Premium Pay added to their base salary.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree that includes college-level coursework in statistics and/or mathematics and one year of experience as a Data Consultant 1 or equivalent OR An equivalent combination of education and experience totaling five years.

Responsibilities

  • Process and quality-review inspection case files and compliance records.
  • Maintain accurate electronic files and documentation in multiple databases and systems.
  • Assist investigators and supervisors with report preparation, case tracking, subpoenas, warrants, and compliance documentation.
  • Conduct research to identify employers, business ownership, and other information needed for inspections and investigations.
  • Track and monitor complaint, referral, and accident activity using SharePoint and other management tools.
  • Compile, organize, analyze, and maintain compliance-related data.
  • Prepare reports, spreadsheets, and statistical summaries for managers and supervisors.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of inspection records and supporting documentation.
  • Identify and resolve data discrepancies and assist with continuous process improvements.
  • Serve as a professional point of contact for employers, employees, and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare correspondence, notifications, and compliance-related communications.
  • Respond to inquiries with professionalism, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Coordinate supplies, equipment inventories, and purchasing activities.
  • Maintain purchasing records and documentation.
  • Assist with performance tracking, administrative reporting, and special projects.
  • Collaborate closely with investigators, supervisors, and regional leadership to support daily operations.
  • Driving is an essential function of this position. The incumbent is required to travel between worksites to perform assigned duties and must operate a state-issued vehicle, motor pool vehicle, or personally owned vehicle (POV), as appropriate. Use of a POV will be reimbursed at the current state mileage reimbursement rate.
