As we continue to grow, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Data Center Travel Technician to join our team and drive our relationships with hyperscale clients to new heights. As the Data Center Travel Technician, you will travel to our client’s locations and be responsible for facilitating the work of data centers and must be clued up on the latest technology pertinent to servers, hardware, operating systems, and maintaining infrastructure. The Data Center Travel Technician serves as a liaison with customers and offers advice and help for a range of problems. Data Center Technicians, for the most part, are available 24/7 working majorly 12 hour shifts 3 to 4 days a week. The Data Center Travel Technician role is a hands-on position where you’ll travel to client sites across the U.S. to support daily data center operations. You’ll help with tasks like installing equipment racks, running and organizing cabling, updating asset systems, and keeping spaces safe and well-maintained. This job is very active and requires lifting, climbing, and working in different environments, both indoors and outdoors. It’s a great opportunity to build experience with servers, hardware, and cabling while working closely with different teams and clients. Travel expenses are covered, and you’ll gain exposure to a variety of data center environments. We’re looking for someone detail-oriented, flexible, and willing to learn, who enjoys problem-solving and being part of a team. When you’re not traveling you’ll support local data centers. Some sites are 24/7 operations and should you be placed on a 3rd shift you will receive a temporary differential in pay.

Requirements

  • Experience in Data Centers and co-location environments managing hardware assets
  • Willingness to travel for long periods of time
  • Demonstrable project management experience with the ability to manage tasks under tight deadlines
  • Experience with a large variety of different vendor hardware: servers, storage, and network equipment
  • Experience in contributing to detailed project plans for programs involving cross functional teams and challenging requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate issue resolution across departmental teams
  • Experience coordinating vendors
  • Experience with Asset Management Systems
  • Experience in managing inventory of cable, power cords and other infrastructure items

Responsibilities

  • MUST BE ABLE TO TRAVEL UP TO 90% OF THE YEAR
  • Conduct the day-to-day operations for the Data Center
  • Traveling to contracted areas
  • Install racks and enclosures for equipment
  • Prepare equipment for installation
  • Update cable management systems as changes are made to the DC cable plant
  • Update asset management systems as equipment is added/removed
  • Execute tasks for each project and work with all teams to meet timelines
  • Communicate project status updates to all teams and stakeholders
  • Communicate information to assist with capacity planning for space, power, data communications, and cooling
  • Manage vendor resources to complete tasks as defined in SOWs
  • Coordinate delivery and shipping of all equipment
  • Access, install, remove, and test copper/fiber optic cable from Point of Demarcation to Data Center Whitespace
  • Cable installation within Whitespace
  • Complete termination of copper/fiber cabling, moves-adds-and changes (MAC)
  • Panel installations, patch cord management, cabinet installation, and proper device connections
  • Inside/Outside plant installation in accordance with required TIA standards
  • Policing of computer rooms, always ensuring cleanliness and that no cardboard is stored
  • Reports hazards and violations of any safety issue
