About The Position

The Data Center Technician works on Google’s Hardware Operations team, which monitors and maintains the physical infrastructure behind Google’s services. The role installs, configures, tests, troubleshoots, and maintains hardware such as servers and their components, along with server software such as Google’s Linux cluster. It also involves configuring more complex infrastructure components, including networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and networking protocols. The technician deploys and operates data center infrastructure, diagnoses and resolves equipment or infrastructure issues, maintains data security and integrity, and performs equipment repairs and preventative maintenance. The work can include manual movement and installation of racks and may be physically demanding. Technicians may participate in or lead small project teams and develop contingency plans for larger installations. Availability for non-standard, shift-based hours—including nights, weekends, and holidays—and travel as operationally required is necessary.
