About The Position

Amentum is seeking a Data Center Operations Lead to join their team at Fort Meade, MD. This role will support challenging, mission-critical projects in the Cyber, Security, & Intel space, specifically for the Department of Defense through the DISA program. The team is focused on engineering, assembling, integrating, deploying, and sustaining an innovative IT enterprise solution. The ideal candidate is a critical thinker with a strong work ethic, capable of thriving independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment. They should be detail-oriented, strategic, responsive to challenges, adaptable, and eager to learn new systems and services.

Requirements

  • Fifteen (15) years deploying large IT projects on-site at Communications and Data Centers.
  • Seven (7) years managing datacenter operations (hardware, IT infrastructure, & critical facilities) as a manager, technical lead, or related role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Technology (IT), Data Center Management, or related field.
  • Extensive background in installing and maintaining IP networks (e.g., Cisco, Juniper), Servers/Systems (e.g., Windows, Linux, VMware, cloud), and Unified Capabilities (e.g., Cisco UC, MS Teams, VoIP, video conferencing).
  • Experience managing vendors, service providers, and contract workforces to measurable outcomes: SOWs, SLAs, operational reviews, and corrective action.
  • Carry hands-on technical depth in server, network, and rack-level infrastructure, enough to independently verify vendor claims and audit quality.
  • Proven experience implementing, improving, and managing operational processes.
  • Can support non-standard hours, including an on-call rotation and availability during deployment surges and maintenance windows.
  • Strong working knowledge of Agile frameworks (Scrum, SAFe, Kanban) and associated tools.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
  • Must have active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • One of the following certifications: Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) Data Center, Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Data Center, Certified Data Center Management Professional (CDCMP), Certified Data Center Facilities Operations Manager (CDFOM), Certified Data Center Design Professional (CDCDP).

Responsibilities

  • Ensure operational availability and reliability of critical systems and infrastructure.
  • Manage the day-to-day O&M activities at strategic partner-managed sites.
  • Manage site activities including deployments, availability, compliance, and incident response.
  • Provide direction, set priorities, and define standards for site support staff.
  • Define the tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) for the deployment, operation, and maintenance of an enterprise solution at partner-managed sites.
  • Set the daily and weekly priorities of data center activities and lead the operating cadence, including standups and business reviews.
  • Develop procedures for deployment, break-fix, change management, security, and EHS compliance.
  • Analyze operational trends and standardize processes across the program.
  • Track individual site and enterprise performance metrics against SLAs and institute corrective actions as necessary.
  • Translate engineering requirements into team’s direction and communicate site constraints and risks to leadership.
  • Organize and lead weekly operations reviews and scorecards with site partners and engineering/technician teams.
  • Work with Project Managers, Site Managers, and Cross-Functional Team Leads to schedule and manage all site deployments and authorized service interruptions (ASIs).
  • Conduct trend analysis to determine failure patterns and root causes.
  • Through continuous process improvement, identify and implement solutions to recurring problems.
  • Establish break-fix relationships and responsibility matrices, train maintenance technicians, and manage incident response for all sites.
  • Lead site surveys, determine operational readiness, produce bill of materials (BOMs) and assist in the creation of checklists and schedules for site projects.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by completing training, participating in emergency response, and serving on safety committees.
  • Conform to the Amentum Quality Policy and carry out job activities in compliance with applicable Amentum Quality System documents and customer contracts.
  • Read, understand and implement the general and specific operational, safety, quality and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures and policies pertaining to his/her job.
