About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. This team is responsible for keeping the cloud running, supporting all AWS data centers and the associated equipment (servers, storage, networking, power, cooling) to ensure continuous customer access. They work on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain. The team is diverse, including software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers, collaborating across AWS to deliver high standards for safety and security, providing infinite capacity at the lowest cost. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a talented and motivated Data Center Infrastructure Engineer II to join the Data Center Engineering team in Herndon, Virginia. In this role, the engineer will ensure the operational integrity and reliability of critical data center infrastructure systems that power the world's largest cloud computing platform.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities experience
  • 4+ years of commissioning experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer License
  • Experience with building codes and regulations for your region
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain critical data center infrastructure including electrical, mechanical, and control systems to ensure maximum uptime and availability
  • Perform root cause analysis on infrastructure failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs for all data center critical systems
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and construction teams to support capacity delivery and infrastructure improvements
  • Develop and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) and emergency operating procedures (EOPs) for infrastructure systems
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system reliability, efficiency, and safety across the data center portfolio
  • Support commissioning and validation activities for new infrastructure deployments and upgrades
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge sharing
