About The Position

The Data Center Facilities Technician operates, monitors, and supports physical facilities conditions in Google data centers. The role involves supporting heating and cooling systems, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution, and control and monitoring systems, as well as inspecting, maintaining, and repairing piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components. The technician helps maintain data center efficiency while meeting environmental and safety standards. They identify problems and make repairs promptly, and respond to emergency or abnormal conditions to manage facility performance issues and outages and minimize recovery time. The role also supports the startup, commissioning, and integration of new equipment and systems into facilities infrastructure.

Requirements

Associate's degree, trade school certification, other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Five years of Electrical, Mechanical/HVAC, or Controls/Automation experience in an industrial or commercial environment.
Experience in electrical infrastructure systems, electrical maintenance, electrical systems, mechanical infrastructure systems, generators, mechanical maintenance, mechanical testing, electrical safety, mission-critical systems, control panels, or controllers.
Ability to participate in material-handling tasks, including lifting, carrying, or moving equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to use OSHA-standard safety equipment, including limited-weight-bearing work platforms, ladders, step stools, and personal protective equipment such as safety harnesses.
Ability to work non-standard hours and differing work rotations or shifts.

Nice To Haves

Five years of experience in controls/automation, a construction or technical environment, or a related field.
Experience in data centers, hospitals, or power plants.
Knowledge of data center electrical and mechanical systems, such as feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS/STS units, PDU/PMM units, chillers, air handling units, and CRAC units.
Knowledge of meters, devices, and sensors, and troubleshooting using standard hand tools, digital metering, or calibration/diagnostic equipment.
Ability to communicate with contractors performing maintenance or upgrade work on data center systems.

Responsibilities

Inspect, maintain, and repair data center systems, including piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components.
Provide daily assistance to technicians by reading blueprints and schematics, conducting system tours, and assessing system working order.
Manage uptime and maintenance of water pumps and treatment systems, HVAC, UPS, generators, electrical distribution, and control and monitoring systems.
Operate, monitor, and maintain data center facilities systems and equipment, and respond to abnormal conditions.
Support startup, commissioning, and integration of new equipment and systems into facilities infrastructure.
Identify problems and make repairs quickly while ensuring environmental and safety standards are met.
Manage data center performance issues and outages during emergencies or abnormal conditions to minimize recovery time.
Develop creative approaches to reduce operational costs and improve data center efficiency.
