About The Position

SpaceX is looking for a data center administrator to help us build and manage our data center infrastructure. As part of our infrastructure team, your responsibility will be the proficient installation and management of server, network, and power systems in our data centers, adhering to best practices to ensure optimal performance. The ideal candidate has experience working with various types of hardware architectures and understands the strengths of each. You will also carry out performance-tuning and quality assurance operations on critical infrastructure components to ensure high level of data quality, availability, and security across the enterprise. In fulfilling this role, you will be expected to collaborate with the team to develop and implement strategies for improved data center operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline and 1+ year of data center experience; OR 3+ years of data center experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Professional experience working in a data center or with IT hardware.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed (to respond to network and server errors after hours).

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications related to IT infrastructure such as CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Network+, and CCNP.
  • Experience with data center infrastructure management (DCIM), including tools to monitor, measure, manage, and/or control data center utilization.
  • In-depth knowledge of data center environments, servers, and network equipment.
  • Extensive experience in installing, monitoring, and maintaining data center equipment.
  • Linux and Windows OS system administration experience.
  • Power and data center cooling capacity planning experience.
  • Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience working with multiple vendor hardware architectures.
  • Experience working with server management tools such as HPE iLO, Cisco CIMC and Dell iDRAC.

Responsibilities

  • Resolve operational, infrastructure or hardware incidents in multiple data centers.
  • Manage complete lifecycle for data center hardware, including deployment, operation, and decommission.
  • Physically rack and cable data center equipment.
  • Track and logically organize the physical storage of incoming data center equipment.
  • Perform quality assurance testing and resolve recurring issues.
  • Schedule and track hardware maintenance tasks.
  • Update port maps and rack layouts and create operational procedures.
  • Monitor the environmental conditions and power/cooling systems of a data center to ensure they are optimum for servers, switches, storage arrays, and other devices.
  • Run hardware diagnostics and replace failing parts in a timely manner.
  • Upgrade internal system components, including CPUs, memory, and storage.
  • Setup and operate common Linux and Windows servers.
  • Document processes and keep event logs.
  • Work with the purchasing department on the procurement of new data center equipment.
