Data Architect / AI-ML Engineer
About The Position
The Data Architect / AI-ML Engineer will provide expert data architecture, artificial intelligence, and machine learning engineering support to the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command – Armaments Center (DEVCOM-AC) Headquarters and its subordinate directorates located at Picatinny Arsenal, NJ. Operating in support of the Business Interface Office (BIO), this role is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise data infrastructure and AI/ML pipelines that enable data-driven decision-making and industry capabilities analysis. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in data engineering and machine learning, coupled with a strong understanding of the defense industry landscape and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to senior leadership.
Requirements
- Python, R, or equivalent; ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
- Data architecture, SQL/NoSQL databases, ETL/ELT pipeline design.
- Cloud platforms: AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, or equivalent DoD-approved environments.
- Bachelor's in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related STEM field required; Master's preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or AI/ML engineering.
- DoD or national security environment experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with NLP/LLMs for technical document analysis or industry research.
- Familiarity with DoD generative AI platforms (Genai.mil, CamoGPT) and Power BI.
- CDMP, AWS Certified Machine Learning Specialty, or similar certification.
Responsibilities
- Design and architect scalable, secure data pipelines and databases for DEVCOM-AC requirements.
- Develop, train, deploy, and maintain ML/AI models supporting industry capabilities analysis and decision support.
- Build and maintain data visualization dashboards and reporting tools for senior Army leadership.
- Integrate structured and unstructured data sources (internal systems, government databases, open-source, web-scraped content).
