About The Position

Reporting to the Director, Policy and MHA System Transformation, the Data and Decision Support Specialist will support AMHO members to use data to make informed, equitable, and strategic decisions. This role involves building data analytics and decision support capacity via coaching, so that member organizations are able to better collect, analyze, and interpret data related to service delivery and system performance. The end goal is for member organizations to leverage data to improve outcomes for clients, communities and the system as a whole. The Specialist will be primarily supporting the Ontario Mental Health and Addictions Provincial Data Set initiative and will work closely with the AMHO team, member organizations, and funders to transform data into insights that guide policy, advocacy, and operational priorities. This is a 1-year contract ending on March 31, 2027, with the potential for extension subject to funding.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in data science, Information management, public health, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience providing data analysis, decision-support, digital capacity-building and/or change management support in health, social services, or non-profit settings.
  • Experience coaching or training professionals on data literacy, privacy, or technology topics.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity and AI concepts relevant to non-profit or healthcare contexts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to translate data into clear insights.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills for coaching diverse audiences.
  • Strong knowledge of data visualization or analytics tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Tableau, R, SPSS).
  • Strong understanding of performance indicators and outcome measurement and data quality improvement practices.
  • Understanding of privacy legislation and data protection principles (e.g., PHIPA, PIPEDA).
  • Awareness of ethical considerations and opportunities related to AI in service settings.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and collaborative learning.
  • Authorized to work in Canada.

  • LEAN Six Sigma, Change Management Professional, and/or Society of Decision Professional Certifications are an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 coaching and technical assistance to member organizations to enhance their skills to interpret and use data for planning, quality improvement, and impact measurement.
  • Support agencies in selecting, interpreting, and communicating key performance indicators.
  • Offer recommendations on practices that align with sector standards and privacy requirements.
  • Design and deliver workshops, webinars, and learning modules on topics such as: Data management, Data analytics for decision-making, Cybersecurity and privacy best practices, Responsible and ethical use of AI.
  • Develop accessible resources (guides, toolkits, e-learning materials) to help agencies build sustainable data and digital capacity.
  • Contribute to sector-wide communities of practice and learning networks focused on data-driven decision-making.
  • Partner with government and association stakeholders to align data capacity initiatives across the sector.
  • Support collective impact initiatives by helping synthesize insights across multiple agencies and regions, to enable more rigorous performance measurement sector wide.
  • Contribute to environmental scans, needs assessments, and sector analyses to inform advocacy and planning.
  • Collaborate with policy, communications, and quality teams at AMHO to integrate data-driven insights into programs and public materials.
