About The Position

Brigham Young University (BYU) is seeking a Data and Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer to modernize data access and data-driven decision-making. In this position, you will design, develop, and support data and business intelligence applications, including extract, transform, and load (ETL) workflows, data warehouses and data marts, and interactive reports and dashboards. Additional duties include database design, requirements analysis, and customer consultation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or four years of a combination of education and Data & BI experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of Data & BI experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and Data & BI experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree and five years of Data & BI experience, or master’s degree and 3 years Data & BI experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and Data & BI experience is required.
  • Desired experience with: PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL, Linux, AWS, Bash, Python, Data Build Tool (dbt), Informatica, JavaScript/TypeScript, APIs, Go, Terraform, Docker

Responsibilities

  • Report & Dashboard Development
  • Provide technical support to campus report developers.
  • Query and modify multiple types of database systems: relational, key-value, graph, data warehouse, etc.
  • Data and Business Modeling
  • Data modeling: analyze and define database structures based on business models.
  • Data Movement and Integration
  • Optimize ETL workflows
  • Database Analysis, Documentation, & Problem Resolution
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve technical problems.
  • Ensure that all proposed system changes have been adequately planned and reviewed eliminating the possibility of unplanned service outages.
  • BI/Data Standards
  • Recommend/lead in creating standards for Data and BI Engineers to follow.
  • Ensure compliance with technical and architectural standards.
