About The Position

Under the general direction of the IT Manager, the Data and Automation Manager is responsible for designing and implementing enterprise-wide solutions, processes, and standards for data management, processing, reporting, and analytics. This role also drives the streamlining of workflows through effective automation, proactively identifying opportunities across the organization to reduce manual effort, improve data quality, and optimize overall business operations. The Data and Automation Manager leads the data and automation team and is accountable for delivering scalable, reliable data management and process automation solutions, ensuring they align with organizational strategy and business objectives. This includes oversight of data platforms such as data warehouses, transactional systems data, reporting and analytics systems, low-code/no-code applications, and AI driven tools. The role also establishes governance frameworks for data, reporting, automation, and AI to ensure consistency, security, and responsible use across the organization. This position is expected to report to the Portland office quarterly at a minimum for all staff and other in-person meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 10 years of experience in data management, automation, or related technical domains, including responsibility for enterprise or cross-functional solutions.
  • 3 years of demonstrated leadership in job or functional role, including people management or technical leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing data engineering, ETL, process automation, business intelligence, or enterprise reporting platforms.
  • Experience managing governance for self-service user-facing tools like reporting, low code no code, or AI.
  • Experience managing or leading technical teams.
  • Experience with tools such as SQL, SSIS, ETL platforms, BI/reporting tools, automation tools, Power Platform, or similar tools.
  • Experience with modern data and applications platforms such as Microsoft Dataverse, Fabric, or equivalent enterprise platforms.
  • Familiarity with AI tools, including Microsoft Copilot or comparable AI solutions.
  • Familiarity with governance frameworks and best practices.
  • Experience in triaging requests for priority, establishing criteria.
  • Experience tracking metrics or KPIs.
  • Leadership and mentoring in data, automation, and reporting best practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-based environment, and the ability to document work for easy understanding for both technical and non-technical users.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of data, automation, and reporting technologists, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Set team goals; assign and prioritize work, manage workloads; and conduct performance evaluations in alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Partner with Infrastructure, Business Systems, and the Enterprise Architect to align platforms, architecture, standards, and delivery approaches across IT.
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate a roadmap for data, reporting, automation, low code no code applications, and AI initiatives.
  • Lead staff in partnering with business units to proactively identify, assess, prioritize, and deliver processes improvement and automation opportunities.
  • Oversee the design and maintenance data warehouse systems, ETL processes, and data structures for reporting and analytics.
  • Oversee the development and management of low code/no code applications, workflows, and integrations.
  • Oversee the development and management of AI-enabled automations and AI agents, ensuring appropriate oversight and responsible use.
  • Collaborate with IT leadership, the Operations Management Team, and users to establish AI and automation platform governance that meets the needs of the business while ensuring appropriate support, training, culture, guard rails, and risk management is in place.
  • Provide vision and oversight for governance of enterprise reporting and analytics platforms.
  • Create guidance on appropriate platforms for automation and clear communications for data and automation staff.
  • Contribute to and help implement Energy Trust’s Data Strategy, including activities such as use-case development, SWOT analysis, data governance, policy creation, and related initiatives.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
