About The Position

Valero is seeking energetic and motivated students for its Intern Program, specifically for a Data Analytics and Automation On-Going Intern role. This internship offers practical data analytics experience, allowing the intern to apply data extraction, modeling, and analysis concepts to develop core competencies for a business environment. The program aims to provide hands-on experience in the energy industry through impactful projects, mentorship, and exposure to company leadership, while fostering Valero’s culture of safety, excellence, accountability, teamwork, doing the right thing, and caring. Valero has an award-winning Internship Program that has been shaping future leaders for over 25 years. The start of this internship will be August 2026 through May 2027.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree (or higher) in Data Analytics or related field
  • Graduation dates of May 2027 through May 2028
  • Able to work 20-25 hours per week during the Fall/Spring semesters
  • Able and willing to work on-site and in-person
  • Eligible to obtain a TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
  • Successful completion of a background check, hair analysis drug screen, and pre-employment physical (if applicable)

Nice To Haves

  • Overall GPA of 3.0 (or higher) on a 4.0 scale
  • Microsoft Office applications and database application experience
  • Strong analytical, communication, and human relations skills

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the design and development of methods for extracting, modeling, and analyzing data (e.g., data structures, scripts, and Robotic Process Automation) for continuous monitoring of key risk indicators, data driven risk assessments, real-time reporting, and/or automated controls testing for Internal Audit (IA) and respective business partners.
  • Participates in proof-of-concept efforts to assess potential new IA analytics processes, functionalities, and tools to continue the evolution of IA’s data analytics and automation environment.
  • Collects, interprets, and compiles data to complete comprehensive analysis through the use of various applications (e.g., Microsoft Power BI, Python, Alteryx, Oracle, SQL, VB Script, PowerShell) and provides root cause analysis for issues identified during internal audits and advisory engagements where applicable.
  • Creates and maintains technical documentation to support analysis and automation processes.
  • Assists with the design and development of Power BI dashboards
