About The Position

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is seeking a detail oriented and collaborative part-time Data Analyst 1 to join the Division of Compliance, Bureau of Human Resources. This position plays a key role in supporting the data needs of programs across the agency, ensuring high quality reporting that drives decision-making, improves transparency, and supports department wide initiatives. The Data Analyst 1 will be responsible for collecting, validating, and analyzing data related to workforce and organizational operations. Key focus areas include cultural assessments, compensation and pay analyses, hiring trends, and other human resources reporting needs. This role also supports the development of dashboards, metrics, and recurring reports that inform leadership and contribute to agency wide strategic efforts. The HHS Data Analyst-1 position is a Part-Time opportunity with a flexible schedule. Occasional travel for trainings and meetings will be required.

Requirements

  • Experience or education in data analysis, statistics, business analytics, information systems, or a related field.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate data clearly, both verbally and in written reports.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Strong proficiency with reporting tools (such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a flexible, part time schedule.
  • Four years of full-time work experience in business/data/statistical analytics, economic research, or data science.
  • A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in business analytics, economics, data science, statistics, mathematics, management information systems, or industrial management equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in business analytics, economics, data science, statistics, mathematics, management information systems, or industrial management.
  • A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience; and b. Possession of a professional certificate in data science, business analytics, or data analytics.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience creating dashboards and performance metrics.
  • Knowledge of HR processes or workforce analytics.
  • Understanding of data governance and data quality principles.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, organize, and analyze program and workforce data from multiple internal sources.
  • Develop and maintain reporting metrics, dashboards, and visualizations to support HR and organizational compliance initiatives.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and timely reports on agency wide topics such as cultural assessments, compensation and pay, and hiring trends.
  • Assist with data quality efforts, including data validation, documentation, and continuous improvement of reporting processes.
  • Collaborate with HR leaders, program teams, and other stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver actionable insights.
  • Support special projects, audits, and compliance reviews as needed.
  • Participate in occasional travel for internal meetings and professional development.
