About The Position

School Harbor is seeking a Data Analyst Engineer to support data management, reporting, and analytics for its clients. This role will work independently to build reliable data pipelines, maintain dashboards, and translate data into actionable insight for program and district stakeholders. School Harbor is an educational technology services company based in Phoenix, Arizona, that provides software development, product strategy, and specialized data solutions for K-12 schools, districts, and EdTech startups. Its data and analytics team focuses on system integration, real-time dashboards, and automated state reporting.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience working heavily in a data-focused role (analyst, data ops, or similar) or in a non-traditional role with demonstrated strong data fluency.
  • AI-supported workflows are encouraged, but candidates must have enough baseline proficiency to read, debug, write, and organize practical code without relying on assistance.
  • Strong working experience with relational database models. Comfortable using SQL to investigate data issues, prepare datasets, and support reporting workflows.
  • Strong proficiency in Python for data cleaning, transformation, automation, and analysis. Comfortable working with messy, real-world datasets and building reliable data workflows.
  • Experience building succinct and dashboards as deliverables. Power BI and Plotly highly preferred.
  • Ability to present complex data in a simple, intuitive, and executive-friendly way.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to translate technical work into non-technical language. Comfortable working directly with clients, asking clarifying questions, and explaining tradeoffs.
  • Able to work independently through ambiguous data problems, investigate root causes, and make practical recommendations.
  • Experience managing large datasets and multiple system integrations. Must be able to identify data quality issues, resolve inconsistencies, and prepare data for reporting or analysis.
  • Must be permanently authorized to work in the United States as a 1099 contractor.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Azure databases, Azure Functions, Azure Web Apps, Key Vault, storage accounts, or related cloud tooling.
  • Experience deploying or supporting data workflows, applications, or services using at least one major cloud provider, such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
  • Education data experience: Familiarity with student data, school systems, education nonprofits, districts, charter schools, or education technology.
  • Fluency in JavaScript and TypeScript is a major plus, including experience contributing to custom dashboards, web apps, or front-end data products.
  • Experience with predictive analysis, statistical modeling, forecasting, or machine learning.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain dashboards (Tableau, Power BI, or Looker) for internal teams and/or stakeholders.
  • Produce recurring reports on student/program outcomes, usage metrics, or engagement data.
  • Translate raw data into digestible insights for non-technical audiences (educators, program managers, administrators).
  • Extract, clean, and transform data from edtech platforms.
  • Leverage relational database models and no-SQL to organize data for analysis.
  • Build Python scripts to automate recurring data pulls, cleaning tasks, or reporting workflows.
  • Maintain data quality and flag inconsistencies across source systems.
  • Respond to data requests from clients and internal team members.
  • Present findings in a clear, non-technical format as needed.
