About The Position

The Darden Elementary Tutor/Leader leads a small group of fellow students in a service experience at Darden Elementary once a week. Responsibilities include driving to Darden Elementary, serving as the primary point-person, training the team to provide classroom support for reading literacy, and leading weekly reflections. This role offers an opportunity to engage with an organization doing impactful work in South Bend and build community with like-minded students. The Center for Faith, Action, and Ministry (CFAM) welcomes applications from students committed to radical hospitality, regardless of faith tradition. Applicants must be current Saint Mary's students eligible for Federal Work Study.

  • Experience working with diverse populations in a spirit of cultural humility
  • Excited to work with and coordinate students from diverse backgrounds
  • Current student of Saint Mary’s College eligible for Federal Work Study/Community Service

Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise a weekly team of fellow students to Darden Elementary
  • Serve as a reading literacy tutor and provide classroom support for a teacher
  • Provide on-site leadership for students
  • Communicate with your team on a weekly basis, emailing reminders of service or upcoming events
  • Coordinate logistical details for your team and Darden Elementary
  • Facilitate the process of obtaining clearances and waivers for your team
  • Track your team’s weekly participation
  • Serve as primary point person for Darden Elementary
  • Serve as the Saint Mary's-approved driver each week
  • Obtain Saint Mary's approval to drive CFAM cars
  • Follow CFAM procedures for checking out cars
  • Alert CFAM coordinator of maintenance needs for cars
  • Facilitate meaningful reflection during Orientation, Closing, and once a week with your team
  • Provide orientation and training to your volunteers at Beyond the Belle Orientation
  • Facilitate meaningful reflections at the end of each service experience
  • Ensure that volunteers understand the importance and value of reflection
  • Lead more extensive reflections during the Closing Reflection
  • Attend weekly Site Leader meeting
