About The Position

The Children’s Museum of South Bend Leader leads a small group of fellow students in a service experience at the Children’s Museum once a week. This role involves driving to the museum, serving as the primary point-person, training the team to supervise open play and support guests, and leading weekly reflections. The position offers an opportunity to engage with a local organization and build community with like-minded students. The Center for Faith, Action, and Ministry (CFAM) welcomes applicants from all faith traditions or no faith tradition who are committed to radical hospitality. To qualify, applicants must be current Saint Mary’s students eligible for Federal Work Study.

Requirements

  • Driver’s license and comfortable driving groups
  • Comfortable with leading group conversations
  • Committed to mutuality, commitment, reflection, and justice in interactions
  • Passion for supporting your community and learning from Community Partners
  • Experience working with diverse populations in a spirit of cultural humility
  • Excited to work with and coordinate students from diverse backgrounds
  • Current student of Saint Mary’s College
  • Eligible for Federal Work Study/Community Service

Responsibilities

  • Lead a weekly team of fellow students to the Children’s Museum
  • Supervise open-play and support guests
  • Provide on-site leadership for students
  • Communicate with your team on a weekly basis, including sending reminders about service or upcoming events
  • Coordinate logistical details for your team and the Children’s Museum
  • Facilitate the process of obtaining clearances and waivers for your team
  • Track your team’s weekly participation
  • Serve as primary point person for the Children’s Museum
  • Serve as the Saint Mary’s-approved driver each week
  • Obtain Saint Mary’s approval to drive CFAM cars
  • Follow CFAM procedures for checking out cars
  • Alert CFAM coordinator of maintenance needs for cars
  • Facilitate meaningful reflection during Orientation, Closing, and once a week with your team
  • Provide orientation and training to your volunteers at Beyond the Belle Orientation
  • Facilitate meaningful reflections at the end of each service experience
  • Ensure that volunteers understand the importance and value of reflection
  • Lead more extensive reflections during the Closing Reflection
  • Attend weekly Community Engagement Leader meeting
  • Attend Community Engagement Leader Training the first weekend of classes
  • Attend weekly Community Engagement Leader meeting
  • Attend Orientation with Site Supervisor
