The part-time Dance Outreach Coordinator position supports several Dance Program initiatives at CSU for the local community. The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance (SMTD) at Colorado State University is recognized as a distinctive program in the performing arts within the state’s land-grant university. Our state-of-the-art facility provides dance, music, and theatre students with the opportunity to work side-by-side with an outstanding faculty of internationally recognized artists, directors, designers, performers, and scholars in a highly inspiring and professional environment. Moving Through Parkinson’s is an affiliate program which assists people living with movement challenges that affect balance, coordination, strength, and more. The Dance Outreach Coordinator works alongside Music Therapy, Dance, and Occupational Therapy students, providing specifically designed movement sequences to improve balance, combat stiffness and rigidity, and improve coordination and spatial awareness. The program goals are to build confidence to move with freedom and ease, acquire tools to use on a daily basis, build strength and endurance and, overall, to improve well being. BRAINY provides arts opportunities for students from Title 1 schools in northern Colorado. Each Dance session concentrates on an appropriate, age-level curriculum centered on an integrated theme derived from current museum exhibitions. The dance outreach coordinator assists dance education students in developing the curriculum, participating or leading the program depending on scheduling, and giving feedback to participating students after a session.
