About The Position

Join Jefferson County Extension, a vibrant part of Colorado State University Extension, where we bring research-based education and resources to life, empowering individuals and communities to thrive. As the CSU Extension Program Coordinator, you’ll play a pivotal role in positive youth development via ENOR environmental discovery camp for 4th-8th graders, and youth/family environmental programming throughout the year. The Coordinator will supervise the management and delivery of educational programs including ENOR, a year-round and part-time camp assistant, a seasonal team of 13 educators and about 4-10 teen program volunteers. This position offers a balance of collaborative teamwork and independent work, with flexible scheduling options to support work-life balance; evening and weekend hours will be necessary at times. The role also offers the opportunity to spend some time outdoors and hiking to ensure trail safety and connection to the curriculum, or visiting the camp/staff out in the field. Requirements

  • 3 years of youth education/ child care
  • Associates Degree in related field
  • ENOR summer environmental camp is registered as a designated school-age child care center.
  • The program coordinator must be at least 21 years of age and meet one of the Qualifications Pathways that include at least one of the following pathways 1) a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate degree with a major in a relevant field (see link for majors list); 2) completion of a course of training approved by the Department that include course content listed; 3) or an Associate’s degree or 60 credit hours and 3 months (456 hours) of experience in child care of 4 or more children over 4 years old (not related to the individual); 4) or persons with no degree must have 21 months (3185 hours) of experience in child care of 4 or more children over 4 years old (not related to the individual) and completion of 6 hours from a college or university -or- completion of 40 clock hours of training in course work applicable to school-age children within the first 9 months in the position; or a current early childhood professional credential level II or higher.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
  • A valid Colorado driver’s license is required for positions that drive on County Business in either a county or personal vehicle within 30-days of hire or beginning to serve as an intern or volunteer.
  • Offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of criminal history, motor vehicle report, education verification, and/or references for all positions.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, assign, train, direct and supervise activities of temporary workers and/or volunteers.
  • Assign special projects and job duties.
  • Visit personnel working off site in parks and open space.
  • Evaluate and mentor staff to ensure safe and quality program delivery.
  • Use evaluation data from campers and camper families, as well as information from external resources to identify issues, needs for improvement, and ensure that the curriculum is up to date, retains alignment with Jefferson County Public Schools curriculum and safe practices are maintained.
  • Monitor compliance with day care licensing requirements and ensure that inconsistencies are addressed.
  • Monitor and track program related expenses to ensure they are within the allocated budget.
  • Order and maintain equipment and supplies.
  • Coordinate with other CSU Extension staff to build support for program delivery and build interdisciplinary education opportunities.
  • Compile data and generate reports for evaluation, promotion and to maintain efficiency.
  • Develop program policies and procedures, curriculum and supporting materials and communication messages.
  • Provide customer service to customers, staff, business and partners ensuring all needs are addressed in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Ensure operations are running smoothly daily and issues are resolved or elevated to management as necessary.
  • Coordinates daily activities with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represent CSU Extension and 4-H internally and externally at community meetings, conferences and organizational meetings.
  • Recruit and engage partners and community members to build alliances and enhance program opportunities.
  • Communicate with partners, providers and vendors.
  • Write reports and promotional material; develop and offer presentations internally and externally.
  • Seek and develop partnerships to improve the quality of program content, site visits and support curriculum enhancements.
  • Supervises staff and their training in area of responsibility.
  • Administer and makes recommendations for routine personnel matters affecting subordinates, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, assigning, scheduling, granting leave, appraisals, and taking corrective action.
  • May be to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
