About The Position

The Dance Instructor is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading safe, engaging, and age-appropriate dance programs for children ages 1.5-12 years. This role includes the delivery of recreational, introductory, combo, and parented dance programs, featuring a variety of dance styles such as ballet, jazz, acro, hip hop, and more, while creating a fun, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for participants.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching dance in a recreational, educational, studio, camp, or community-based setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child development principles and the ability to plan and deliver age-appropriate dance programs for children aged 18 months to 14 years.
  • Strong instructional skills with the ability to teach, demonstrate, and adapt age-appropriate dance and performance skills, drills, and progressions to meet varying developmental needs and abilities.
  • Excellent supervision, risk management, and safety awareness, with a commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with children and foster their engagement through enthusiastic leadership, creativity, and a child-centered approach.
  • Strong organizational, time management, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with children, families, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while demonstrating professionalism, sound judgment, and initiative.
  • Trico Centre will initiate a comprehensive criminal background check for all new hires. A previous check will be accepted provided it is dated within the past 6 months

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Standard/Intermediate First Aid & CPR Level C is preferred.
  • Post-secondary education, certification, or coursework in Dance, Dance Education, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Recreation, Child and Youth Care, Education, or a related field is considered a strong asset.
  • Certification or training in recognized dance education and progression programs such as Acrobatic Arts, ADAPT, Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), Canadian Dance Teachers Association (CDTA), Performing Arts Educators of Canada (PAEC), Acro Dance Teachers Association (ADTA), or equivalent is considered an asset.
  • Experience teaching a variety of recreational dance styles, including ballet, jazz, acro, hip hop, lyrical, musical theatre, tap, and creative movement, is considered an asset.
  • Related certifications in child development, inclusion, physical literacy, HIGH FIVE®, behavioral guidance, leadership, or mental health are considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement engaging dance lesson plans tailored to different age groups and developmental stages, including parented, preschool, children’s, and youth programs.
  • Instruct a variety of dance styles and techniques in a safe, positive, and recreational learning environment.
  • Incorporate creative movement, skill development, choreography, music, and dance-based games to build confidence, coordination, creativity, and a love of dance.
  • Foster teamwork, cooperation, self-expression, and positive social interactions through group activities and dance experiences.
  • Adapt instruction, choreography, and activities to accommodate participants with diverse needs, abilities, and learning styles, ensuring an inclusive and supportive environment for all.
  • Prepare and organize lesson materials, music, equipment, and studio spaces to support high-quality program delivery.
  • Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to help participants develop their dance skills, confidence, and enjoyment of movement.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organized activity environment.
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with caregivers about program details, children’s progress and any concerns.
  • Collaborate with fellow staff members to support a cohesive program experience and share best practices
