About The Position

The Gymnastics/Dance Instructor at the YMCA is responsible for instructing students on the principles of gymnastics and/or dance. The incumbent will be responsible for the development, organization and implementation of high quality gymnastics and/or dance programs for youth and teens. The incumbent intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Requirements

  • MINIMUM AGE OF 16; REQUIRED.
  • Previous experience working with children in a gymnastics, dance or cheer environment, required.
  • Gymnastics/Dance knowledge & skills, required.
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED Certification, required.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

  • PA CHILD ABUSE HISTORY CERTIFICATION
  • FBI CLEARANCE (DEPT. OF HUMAN SERVICES)

Responsibilities

  • Instruct gymnastic/dance classes while following the national YMCA guidelines and curriculum.
  • Assist with new student/parent orientations.
  • Observe and adjust approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
  • Conduct fun, energizing, safe, and developmentally appropriate classes while promoting a positive atmosphere.
  • Equipment setup/teardown for weekly classes.
  • Maintain accurate records for participants.
  • Build effective, authentic relationships with members; help members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
  • Maintain program areas and adhere to program standards in regards to equipment, storage, safety and cleanliness.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Employees may be compensated up to $50.00 for clearances once the probationary period has been passed.
