About The Position

Black & Veatch’s Civil Works Team is looking for a Dams Engineering Manager with strong technical skills in dam and hydraulic structures engineering design, rehabilitation and construction to lead projects for our clients in the Northwest, West Coast, and Southwest regions. In this position you will manage and mentor junior staff and develop an execution team capable of delivering a variety of multi-disciplinary dams, hydropower, flood control, and hydraulic structures projects. In this role you will have the opportunity to: Lead projects and tasks involving dams, spillways, intakes, outlets, and other hydropower and hydraulic structure improvements. Deliver innovative, high-quality design products and participate in construction processes for dam and hydropower clients. Collaborate with subject matter experts across a wide array of disciplines to deliver plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical analyses. Manage and mentor junior staff and review lower-level engineering work or assignments. Perform site and client visits in advancement of project delivery. Coordinate with personnel in other departments and client personnel to review designs and resolve areas of concern. Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work for an assigned portion of a major project or the total project of moderate scope. Engage in trainings to advance your leadership capabilities, organizational understanding, and build your internal network within the first 18-month of employment. These intensive training programs will provide you with the tools and insights into the BV organization to develop and advance your career towards business leadership at the regional and national levels. Following training completion, function as an engineering manager supporting project and pursuit teams on Dams, Hydropower, and other Civil Works projects

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing or equivalent experience in Engineering work.
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
  • Holds an active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries, and supports where necessary.
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

  • Experience with West Coast dams and hydropower clients.
  • Master's Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulatory requirements for dams and hydropower clients
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License

  • Function as an engineering manager supporting project and pursuit teams on Dams, Hydropower, and other Civil Works projects.
  • Communicating and working directly with client counter parts to understand key interests for developing technical solutions to their infrastructure challenges, providing ideas and strategies to deliver projects from concept to closeout.
  • Translating client direction into efficient workplans and coordinating with project team members to deliver high-quality work products.
  • Creating written technical documents, technical drawings, specifications, cost estimates, alternatives analyses, and other common engineering deliverables.
  • Having familiarity with design guides, standards, systems, and applicable engineering codes relevant to the hydropower industry.
  • Demonstrating the ability to leverage knowledge of general engineering principles including hydraulics, civil/structural design, geotechnical considerations, and mechanical systems to generate unique, engineered solutions.
  • Preparing and overseeing the preparation of calculations and design documents.
  • Participating in equipment procurement and construction management processes.
  • Managing and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Providing support to business development teams for pursuit activities with the opportunity to lead projects that you pursue and acquire.
  • Participation in internal Engineering Management and Local Business Leadership training programs with the intent of pursuing regional business leadership.
