By becoming experts in Damage Prevention, including understanding of local 811 laws, client-specific regulations and Safe Digging Best Practices, we provide an invaluable service to our clients, the contractors we interact with, as well as the public at large.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities per daily work schedule.
  • Communicate clearly orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
  • Meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Applicant must have a valid driver's license and clean MVR.
  • Willing to provide written consent for GPS tracking of location (via Company issued cell phone, tablet/laptop, or Company issued vehicle).
  • Pass pre-employment and random Drug & Alcohol Tests.
  • Pass background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Utility locate experience preferred.
  • Operator Qualifications related to natural gas pipeline installation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that excavator contractors are complying with the rules and regulations regarding work performed around the utility client's natural gas system.
  • Identify improper excavation activities and violations of the North Carolina Safe Digging regulations.
  • Authorize stoppage or interfere with the work of the excavator contractor if needed.
  • Ensure the safety, reliability, security and integrity of the distribution system, as outlined by the utility client and the North Carolina Utility Protection Services (NCUPS).
  • Visit designated sites, prior to and/or during active construction, weather permitting.
  • Log information regarding the contractor's name, nature or scope of work, and note any changes in scope based on original NCUPS request.
  • Ensure excavation is not occurring before the required wait time.
  • Distribute educational material from NCUPS promoting safe digging practices.
