About The Position

The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (ODAFF) is seeking a Dairy Laboratory Scientist in the Laboratory Services Division. This position (PIN #04000623) is in state government, located in Oklahoma City, OK. The hourly pay for this position is up to $25.51 based on education and experience. Position Description: This Dairy Laboratory Scientist position is responsible for the testing and analysis of microbiological and/or chemical testing of milk, meat, water and food products.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic principles and practical applications of chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology and/or related laboratory specialties; testing procedures and equipment; of instruments and test apparatus; of the purpose of the chemical analysis being performed and of the materials being analyzed.
  • Ability is required to operate laboratory equipment, to write technical reports and to apply laboratory safety procedures.
  • Education and Experience requirements for entry at this level consist of a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biological or environmental science.
  • Must obtain certification as a Dairy Analyst in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Dairy Program and attend training given by the Food Emergency Response Network (FERN).

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes food, water, soil, waste, and other agricultural samples to determine levels of compliance with state and federal regulations or applicable specifications.
  • Access specimens/samples for acceptability for testing.
  • Record information in the laboratory database relative to specimen/sample collection, identification, preservation, processing, quality control, test results and specimen/sample referral.
  • Provide consultation regarding the appropriateness of testing ordered and the interpretation of test results.
  • Manipulate potentially hazardous specimens/samples and analytic reagents in a safe and responsible manner within the laboratory setting.
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain safety equipment, as needed.
  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, and periodically assess procedures and identify problems that may adversely affect test performance.
  • Maintains all equipment related to analysis within the laboratory.
  • Maintains supply inventories necessary to perform all laboratory analyses.
  • Evaluates and prepares reports on the results of analysis and studies.
