About The Position

Assist the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals and monitor established quality assurance standards. The role supports customers with product questions, recommendations, samples, dairy specials, and ordered products. It also involves checking freshness, reviewing sell-by dates, labeling, stocking, and inventorying merchandise; reporting ordering or shipping discrepancies; and following food safety and temperature-control procedures. The clerk reinforces safety programs, inspects equipment, reports incidents and hazards, and works cooperatively in a fast-paced environment. The position may include direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults. Essential functions must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

Retail experience.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Effective communication skills.
Knowledge of basic math, including counting, addition, and subtraction.

Responsibilities

Promote trust and respect among associates.
Create a welcoming customer environment and answer questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Maintain knowledge of department products, answer questions, and make product suggestions.
Offer product samples and inform customers of dairy specials.
Provide customers with fresh products they have ordered and recommend dairy items to meet their needs.
Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering and shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Maintain a positive attitude and stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Follow food safety regulations and guidelines; maintain proper case and cooler temperatures and temperature logs.
Comply with safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
Inspect equipment for preventive maintenance needs and notify the appropriate department or store manager about repairs.
Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment and manage conflict reasonably and cooperatively.
Act honestly and with integrity regarding customer and business information.
Follow directions and seek assistance when needed to resolve customer and business issues.
Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and/or older adults.
