About The Position

The Cytotechnology Tech performs highly specialized testing in the Cytopathology section of the laboratory. The Cytotechnology Tech assists the Clinician and or/Pathologist in the collection of aspirates from patients and accessions, processes, microscopically examines and evaluates gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens received in the laboratory. The Tech is responsible for the accuracy, reliability and timeliness of patient test results used for the diagnosis, management and treatment of patients. He/She performs assigned QC functions and prepares cases for pathologists review. Is computer literate and possesses both a theoretical and a working knowledge of the equipment in the section. The Cytotechnology Tech complies with quality control policies and procedures as required and maintains the necessary documentation. The Tech performs and documents routine preventative maintenance on the equipment in the section.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree and/or equivalent training required for California Cytotechnology license.
  • Graduation from an accredited (ASCP/NCA) Cytotechnology program.
  • 2 years combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience.
  • Experience as a Cytotechnologist in a hospital laboratory.
  • Experience in specialized and complex analysis of GYN and non-GYN cytological cases.
  • Working knowledge of required quality control, quality improvement and routine preventative maintenance.
  • Computer knowledge.
  • Organization/time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service behavior.
  • Licensed Cytotechnologist (CA DPH)
