This position involves the evaluation of specimens obtained by a variety of techniques, including fine needle aspiration of major organ systems and subcutaneous masses. The role requires knowledge of body systems to ensure the correlation and validity of results. The Cytotechnologist will provide technically sound, accurate, and patient-focused testing by prioritizing samples, verifying specimen identification, ensuring sample appropriateness and quality, and performing correct accessioning and testing. The position also involves adherence to policy and procedure manuals, participation in accreditation inspections, support for cytology supervisors, and effective participation in quality improvement activities. The role requires understanding the relationship between clinical data and morphological changes in cytology samples, interpreting disease presentations, and applying this knowledge to achieve an accurate diagnosis. This includes subjective microscopic evaluations based on academic instruction, technical training, experience, and prioritizing guideline sources. The Cytotechnologist will also participate in continuing education programs and proficiency testing.
