The Cytotechnologist position in the Pathology Department involves evaluating specimens obtained by various techniques, including fine needle aspiration of major organ systems and subcutaneous masses. The role requires knowledge of body systems to check correlation and validity of results. This position is Per Diem and focuses on providing technically sound, accurate, patient-focused testing while adhering to policy and procedure manuals, standard operating manuals, and quality control manuals in compliance with regulatory agencies like CAP & CLIA. The role also involves participating in preparations for CAP and JCAHO accreditation inspections, supporting cytology supervisors, gathering statistics, and evaluating laboratory preparedness. Cytotechnologists are expected to promote effective relationships with hospital personnel, actively participate in Quality Advancement/Improvement activities, and apply their knowledge of clinical data and morphological changes to interpret cytology samples for accurate final diagnoses. The scope of judgment includes subjective microscopic evaluations based on academic instruction, technical training, experience, and knowledge of specimen identification, processing, recording, and quality control. Participation in the CAP interlaboratory continuing education program and annual Proficiency Testing is also required. The role emphasizes utilizing hospital's values for decision-making and following established infection control and safety procedures.
