About The Position

The Cytotechnologist is responsible for the evaluation and screening of cellular specimens to identify abnormalities and support the diagnosis of disease. This role works closely with pathologists and laboratory professionals to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant diagnostic results while maintaining high standards of laboratory practice and patient safety.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of cytology and laboratory procedures (required)
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced laboratory environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Accurate documentation and record-keeping abilities
  • Associate degree meeting NYS Clinical Laboratory licensing requirements (required)
  • High School Diploma or GED (required)
  • NYS Clinical Laboratory Technician License (required)

Nice To Haves

  • 1–2 years of laboratory experience (preferred)
  • Histotechnician/Histotechnologist License (preferred)
  • NYS Pathologist’s Assistant License (preferred)
  • NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, screen, and examine cytological specimens for cellular abnormalities
  • Identify and document atypical or suspicious cellular changes
  • Assist pathologists in diagnostic interpretation and case review
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation
  • Ensure proper specimen handling, labeling, and processing protocols
  • Perform routine quality control and quality assurance procedures
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment as required
  • Follow infection control, safety, and regulatory compliance standards
  • Collaborate effectively with laboratory and clinical teams
  • Support efficient workflow and turnaround time within the cytology unit
